Don’t aim with your eyes, shoot with your mind and kill with your heart…
Hi everyone!
First up, I’d like to confess… I honestly tried but couldn’t… read the Stephen King’s The Dark Tower to the end. I’ve read only somewhere about a fifth of it. I respect Stephen King and his books, but in my humble opinion, the plot develops here toooo slooooowly…
However, I couldn’t help learning about the whole story of the famous novel series of one of my favorite writers. So when I found out that the first and very long part of the series became a 95 minute film, I was so glad. So, my opinion about it is going to be absolutely unbiased, because I’ll be reviewing the film itself without comparing it to the book.
Name: The Dark Tower
Genre: Horror, fantasy.
Directed by: Nikolaj Arcel
Starring: Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey, Tom Taylor, etc.
Rating: PG-13
Movie info:
There are other worlds than these. Stephen King's The Dark Tower, the ambitious and expansive story from one of the world's most celebrated authors, makes its launch to the big screen. The last Gunslinger, Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), has been locked in an eternal battle with Walter O'Dim, also known as the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey), determined to prevent him from toppling the Dark Tower, which holds the universe together. With the fate of the worlds at stake, good and evil will collide in the ultimate battle as only Roland can defend the Tower from the Man in Black.
What is this movie about?
This movie is about the never-ending battle between good and evil, construction and destruction and light and darkness. The good guys are the Gunslinger that is looking for a revenge and his new teenage friend from Earth.
They are to fight against the villian, who longs to destroy the Dark Tower thus depriving many worlds of their protection.
As far as you understand, the evil, which is The Man in Black is not alone here and has plenty of his apprentices.
How they filmed it.
Right off the bat, I’m not such a huge movie buff and it’s quite easy to impress me, so I’m not going to judge this movie strictly. I’m just not able to do it.
When I first watched the trailers, I was impressed by the leading actor in a good way. I thought that he would look different. Throughout the film I got used to him, because he always proved to me that he was the right actor for this role.
I love the acting a lot in this film. Everyone was on top. I was absolutely convinced.
Well, actually it’s no surprise, as the actors are professionals and very talented and famous.
The Gunslinger is Idris Elba and the Man in Black is Matthew McConaughey.
Even 17-year old Tom Taylor who is playing a teenager and who is not yet a superstar has already acted in a few movies.
As I have already mentioned, I’ve found two trailers. I’ve watched them and decided that the movie was cut short a little bit. A few scenes were taken out. However, the film is still decent without them.
Since this movie is based on the Stephen King’s book, I’ve expected it to be more mysterious. In reality it’s more like an action film. Nobody mentioned about it anywhere.
The movie is exciting and quite breathtaking, taking into account the film itself without comparing it to the book, which I haven’t read.
Overall summary:
I was captivated by the story during the film. I worried about the heros and I sympathized, although the ending was quite predictable. By the way I was watching this film in the morning, but surprisingly I didn’t want to sleep like in the case with 50 Shades of Gray, which I’d been watching in the early morning too.
This movie represents many genres. It’s fantasy with magic, miracles
and portals with other civilizations
and an action movie with spectacular combats and gun battles.
Moreover, you can even laugh at some scenes. Plus, perfect actors’ portrayals, awesome visual effects, great atmosphere and the gripping story. As a result, it’s a film that is worth your attention. I’m glad that I watched it.
Definitely recommended!
Thank you for your attention! I hope that my review was helpful for you.
