Pureology is a relatively young company, but their products have already been spotted in numerous ratings and reviews. The brand is thought to be one of the most efficient in color treated hair care. I wasn’t sure how true it is, but it definitely piqued my interest and I longed to give it a go and check the statement myself.
My hydrating shampoo and conditioner are running low, but I still cannot form any definite opinion. It doesn’t usually happen to me.
I love it and hate it at the same time…
Why is the price so hefty?
Price: about $25 for a set.
The idea of the brand is the reason for that. All the products are designed for color treated hair, so that you don’t have to choose between color retention and volume boost. Color treated hair has utterly different needs and the manufacturer has created a variety of products to counter these problems.
All their shampoos use ZeroSulfate formula for gentle rinsing.
AntiFadeComplex for color vibrancy.
100% vegan formulas, although their products are not all natural.
They are so sure about their products, that they guarantee a full refund, if you are not satisfied with the results within 4 weeks.
The offer is only valid, if you buy a Pureology product at the authorized salon.

Packaging. Both products come in pearl and purple plastic bottles. They are beautiful and easy to use. Nothing happened with them within a few months of use.
Texture. The shampoo is really concentrated and thick. It has a pearly color with a hint of purple like many other shampoos for blondes
The product lathers well and the foam is very soft, thick and silky. It rinses quite well on the first try, but I prefer washing it twice.
Smell. According to the description, I was going to feel a sensitive and relaxing scent, which turned out to be very potent in reality. Basically I feel spicy notes of lavender and ginger tea. However, it doesn’t get overwhelming. The scent is not-in-your-face, but quite natural and nice, which doesn’t remind me of a SPA treatment actually.
My experience:
I started using the set in winter and the result was not good for me. I thought that they were not hydrating and nutritive enough.
In spring I’d decided to give them one more try. This time the result made the world of difference. However, the effect didn’t show up at once. Sometimes my hair was silky smooth after washing, but the next time it was only clean and refreshed, that’s it. There was a time when I was so excited about the outcome. My hair was so soft and flowing, but the effect was not so impressive the next time I washed it…
Anyway no miracle happened. I haven’t noticed any outstanding results everyone was talking about in their reviews. However, I think that the shampoo is decent. It is the best of the range.
In the photos below you can see my hair blown dry after the use of the shampoo only.
My hair still looks a little fluffy
✔ Rinses hair gently and very well. My hair feels absolutely clean, although no squeaky clean effect.
✔Doesn’t irritate my scalp.
✔ People usually choose the shampoo according to their scalp type. This one is meant for dry hair. My scalp is more oily than dry, so I was worried that my hair would be getting oily too soon, but the result was different.
My hair was clean for a longer period of time. As a rule I have oily roots and dry tips the next day after washing. This shampoo changed it for the better, so that my roots are less oily with my tips less dry now.
However, the result is quite decent
✔ I haven’t noticed any volume boost, but my natural root lift is still there even the next day.
✔ No tangling. You can do without the conditioner unless you hair is damaged.
✔ Softens hair well. My hair is silky and really soft as if I’ve never dyed it.
✔ A little goes a long way.
✔ On the minus side, it doesn’t enhance the shine.
My tips lack moisture
Moreover, the conditioner is not nutritive enough for me.
All in all, the shampoo is well worth a try. It rinses well, makes my hair clean for a longer period of time. Plus, it neither tangles nor weighs my hair down.
I give 4 stars to the product. I wish I could get better results for the price. I guess, the shampoo would be perfect for normal color treated hair for color retention.
