Hello everyone!

I’d like to tell you about the Mac eyeshadow squad which I bought a couple of years ago when I was crazy about smokey eyes. It seems like Mac didn’t want to bother about the name, so they named it after one of the shades included:)

So, let’s begin!

Design: The palette looks classic with black, white and transparent colors, typical for this brand. It fits in a cardboard box which I couldn’t save Smile

So the design is neat. The packaging is convenient, the lid of the palette closes tightly with a snap. I don’t have any gripes about the quality, nails are safe also. The only thing I’d like to note is that the lid gets dirty too quickly, considering that I’ve been keeping it carefully Smile But it’s not such a big deal.

Volume : 5.6 g

This palette is a bit pricey but if you want to buy your own set with refills, it would cost even more.

However, I’d like to mention that for this high price:

Mac eyeshadow is an extremely long-lasting product. I haven’t finished anything of Mac really Smile

Many people like me ignore the expiry date within due limits. I’ve got my eye shadows for 2 years now, so I think it’s worth its price.

As for the self-made palette, I’m sure that there’s no need to buy 4 shades separately, as one can easily do with 2 of them - the charcoal and the light one. I use them most.

Basically, a little goes a long way.

Pigmentation:

The palette has a great pigmentation, but there’s one catch. One should better apply some basis first, as the shadows give a lighter color then, according to the swatches below. It’s not a problem for me though, as I always apply the basis (in my case it’s Mac as well, as it goes perfectly together)

Shades and texture:

So, let’s take a look at our palette. They are Forgery, Melt My Heart, Silver Ring and Carbon.

The first one is Forgery:

It’s a sheer glittery silver shade. There you can find quite big shimmer particles, though the shadow itself is fine-grained. It can dust a bit with these particles. According to Mac texture classification, Forgery relates to Lustre. It’s easy to apply and blend it out, the finish is sheen.

The next one is Melt My Heart:

It’s a very shiny/metallic silver. It’s also fine-grained and very silky. There are no problems with applying it and it blends out as well. The finish is pearl without shimmer particles. It corresponds to VELUXE texture.

Silver Ring looks very much like the previous shade, besides the textures are alike. The only difference is that Silver Ring is more intense and less shiny:

The last one and I think the most important shade is a popular deep charcoal Carbon:

The texture reminds of satin or matte shades. It gives a half-matte finish plus a beautiful coverage.

It’s a perfect color for smokey eyes. It’s easy to apply, but it blends out not so well. I’m not such a pro in this sphere, but it was hard to blend this shade out really. I have no idea how to do it without any base Smile

Swatch:

The shades look pale without base. It’s not like it bothers me, but I think intensity and blending could be better for such a price (here I mean Carbon shade). So I gave a 3 to this palette.

Staying power:

It’s perfect. They can easily stay during a party. Besides, Carbon shade seems to stay there forever if you apply a base. They don’t travel, fall out or disappear since time. Well, they’re great.

Makeup with these shades:

I’m a not a pro, but here is my eye makeup Smile

I’ve decided to do 2 makeup looks - the lighter version for every day and a stronger one for evenings.

For everyday smokey eyes I’ve applied the second shade on the eyelids first, then Carbon shade on the outer corner of the eye. Then I blended it out with the third shade and used the first, the lightest one under the brow and one for the inner corner of the eye.

For the next eye makeup I’ve applied 3 shades: The third one as a basis, Carbon on the outer corner of the eye and the lightest shade under the brow and on the inner corner of the eye.

Actually, it’s possible to make the eye makeup even with two shades, like, for example, Carbon + one of the grey shades (I usually take the lighter one)

To buy or not to buy: that is the question.

It is really a question for me. It happens often that I start writing a review with a firm opinion about it, but then I begin to doubt it during the process:)

It’s a divine palette with great shades if you forget about the price. Yeah, Carbon blends out not so well, but it’s hard to do this with any black shades!

If you have no issue with the price, then I recommend this palette for you. If you don’t want to spend much money, then you can try refills.

If you have a great highlighter or light eye shadows, buy the Mac Carbon shade and do makeup with them Smile

I recommend it:)
