I have quite a controversial opinion about Marc Jacobs Decadence Eau de Parfum, but let’s start from the beginning.
The fragrance was released in 2015. Everyone was fascinated by the bottle. It’s made of thick glass in the form of a clutch. It comes with a dark green lid with a massive golden chain and black tassel. In fact, it's too glamorous, I’m not really into such bizarre and meaningless bottles. Why do I call it meaningless? The reason is that you can’t take this big and heavy bottle with you and put it in your purse.
That is the first downside of the fragrance.
The fragrance refers to the eastern floral family.
Top notes: plum, iris flower and saffron.
Heart notes:Bulgarian rose, jasmine sambac and orris;
Base notes: vetiver, papyrus woods and liquid amber.
My first thought was WOW! Such a promising and tempting scent. I can distinctly feel a plum with jasmine and spices. The fragrance sounds very soft and balanced at the beginning. I wish Marc Jacobs stopped here and forgot about the other notes Alas! The sillage is too faint and the fragrance makes me melancholic and languid. He was right calling it "decadence"!
Nevertheless, for the first 40 mins it smells divine and almost perfect, but then it’s hell. Some heavy and suffocating sillage appears, but I can’t even understand why. I got a headache and the irresistible desire to wash it off ASAP, but there is nothing I can do about it, as the staying power is incredible, it wouldn’t come off even with a soap! At this point I only want to put a gas mask on!
Verdict: It’s brilliant when it unfolds, but astringent and too heavy later. It’s definitely not my cup of tea.
I used it 4 times, but the result was always the same.
I’m sorry, if I hurt your feelings with these words. I didn't want to, I just wanted to share my experience with you.
Brand representatives have sent me tons of testers, but I would never buy the full version! So I advise you to test the fragrance before buying and don’t purchase it as a gift, as it’s highly likely that your birthday girl won’t like it. No doubt, the fragrance is not versatile and suitable for everyone.
