Pros: heats up quickly, makes hair smooth and soft
Cons: bulky

Hello there!

Constant hair straightening with regular hair irons damages and over-dries my hair. I’ve been dreaming of the styling tool from Rowenta and L'Oreal Professionnel since it was launched about 4 years ago. Last year my husband finally presented me with this long-awaited tool.

So what’s the difference between a steampod and a common hair straightener?

For a smooth and mirror-like shine you can create at home, discover Steampod. Our hair straightener offers a continuous flow of high pressure steam; this unique tool can be used to create a variety of finishes, from smooth and supple looks to soft, tumbling waves. Try our most-loved steam hair styling tool today to reveal hair that looks smooth and glossy.

It doesn’t damage your hair, but actually protects it from heat.

The steam styler came in a big black box with a paper cover, where you can find all the necessary information:

It weighs around 2.5 kg.

Price: ca. $294.00

About the product:

  • Steam and pro-keratin technology for silky smooth hair

  • Protects from heat damage

  • Reaches heat of 140-210°C

  • Adjustable temperature setting

  • Transform your hair in a flash : 50% smoother, 50% faster

When you turn the styler on, it lights up at the front:

On the handle you can find temperature and on/off buttons with a LED light:

Once it’s heated up to the temperature you’ve selected, the indicator stops flickering, which means that you can use it now. It heats up in about 3 minutes.

When the tool is ready, the plates start steaming when you shut them. Plus, the hair straightener makes a distinctive sound of short steam bursts.

You can choose the temperature according to your hair type. As for me, I prefer setting it to 180 degrees.

L'Oreal Professionnel Steampod 2.0 is not really a hair iron or curling iron. The main peculiarity of this hair care tool is that it straightens or curls your hair using a flow of high pressure stream that intensifies the performance of heated metallic plates.

Everything in the box is in place:

The built-in brush takes a certain amount of hair and helps distribute it in the plates. You can take the brush out and wash it.

The plates are connected by a steam pod, where you can add water or any products with keratin to get better results.

I add a specific keratin product every 2 weeks instead of water:

The pod is portable and has a measurement line. This container attaches to a table surface with suction cups.

The tool has 2 cables, one of which is meant for plugging the tool and the other is for supplying plates with steam:

A hairdo lasts up to 3 days and survives even humid days.

1. Before styling your hair blow it completely dry or let it dry naturally. The same rule works for styling with conventional curling irons or hair straighteners.

2. The manufacturer advises using hair care products of the same brand, but I use my own heat protectants.

3. Take no more than 2 cm of your strand to get better results.

4. Hold the straightener following the directions of the arrows on the outside for steaming your hair first and straightening it with the floating plates after that.

It takes 10 minutes to straighten my short hair instead of 30 minutes with a regular hair iron, because I don’t have to use the tool repeatedly on one and the same strand. So, the hair damage decreases as well.

Result:

My hair is smooth, straight and has the same root lift. It looks healthier than after using a regular flat iron.

The manufacturer states that if used regularly, the hair structure gets better in 2-3 months. I haven’t noticed anything of the kind, but my hair definitely hasn’t gotten worse within a year and a half. Split ends do appear as usual, if I don’t have them cut.

That’s how my hair looks after blow drying:

The result with L'Oreal Professionnel Steampod 2.0:

My hair looks voluminous and alive:

I’d like to attach a photo of my hair styled with a common flat iron for you to compare:

Comparison with a hair iron:

  • The steampod is obviously bulkier and weightier. It’s not a deal-breaker for me, as it works really fast, so my hands don’t get tired.

  • The steampod heats up quicker than most other flat irons.

  • As I’ve already mentioned, the steampod straightens my hair within 10 minutes against 30 minutes with a hair iron.

  • My hairdo is voluminous after styling and lasts 72 hours even on humid days.

  • The steampod damages my hair less than flat irons. More than that, it revives my hair when keratin products are used instead of water.

The only con for me is its size. Sometimes I don’t feel like taking out this bulky styling tool, pouring water in a steam pod, etc. So I use a flat iron, but it happens rarely.

So, the tool is not travel-friendly, as it will take up much room in a bag Smile Moreover, you should be ready to shell out your money to get this fabulous steampod Smile

I’m really happy with my purchase and would never leave L'Oreal Professionnel Steampod 2.0! Not for Joe!
