Some years ago I received two minis of a highlighter and a bronzer by theBalm. That was the moment when I first met the brand. I was raving about those two products and soon I bought this Sexy Mama powder too.

♥ Packaging ♥
This is actually the main standing out feature of the Balm brand. All their packages are adorned with flirty sexy ladies. The package is made of cardboard and it closes with a magnet. I know that some bloggers list the packaging of the product to the disadvantages but for me, it isn’t a problem at all. Yes, it isn’t a good throw-in-a-bag option but I usually carry it in my makeup pouch or in a separate pocket.
Initially, the powder comes with one more paper cover but I don’t keep it anymore.
★ Size - 7.08g. That’s a lot! It’ll go a long way, a year or maybe even more, given that you use it every day.
However, there still wasn’t a powder of mine which didn’t go for a year. :)The back of the product gives a lot of information, including the ingredients list.
Ingredients:
Mica, Boron Nitrate, Polyethylene, PTFE Wax, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Silica, Isoeicosane, Zinc Stearate, Styrene DVB Copolymer, Polyisobutene, Dimethylimidazolidinone Rice Starch, Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Gossypium Herbaceum Powder ((Cotton)), Sodium Dehydroacetate, Dimethicone
I’m not good at all those components analysis but I can see that the product is talc-free, which is already a plus.
Inside you’ll find a small mirror. There isn’t any sponge there, however, I feel like I don’t even need it. The powder is better to apply with a brush.
♥ Shade ♥
This powder comes only in one shade. Why? Because it’s the lightest and translucent texture-wise. It doesn’t bring any color to my face but only brings it a light matte veil.
♥ Texture ♥
It’s really velvety and thick. It doesn’t dust during application. In the swatches, you can see that its texture is somehow chunky.
♥ Application ♥
As for me, I find a brush the best tool for this powder application. Mine is soft and synthetic.
Natural bristled brushes scratch the surface of the powder and pick up too much of it, that’s why it usually applies with spotty patches. The synthetic brush doesn’t bring any problems at all because it picks up a little bit and distributes the powder evenly on my skin. Don’t use a sponge for this powder application, otherwise, the coverage will look uneven, due to its chunky texture.
♥ This powder will suit you:
► if your skin tone is smooth but you suffer from oily shine. The powder renders a good mattifying effect for some hours.
► as a finishing product for your BB cream or a foundation.
► in summer when you don’t want to apply too much on your skin.
► in winter when your skin is flaking. This powder will never accentuate flaking skin bits because it’s gentle and lightweight.
♥ This powder WON’T suit you:
►if you’re wearing evening makeup. It’s too lightweight for that.
► If you have freckles, reddening or any other skin woes, which you’d like to conceal.
► If you love using sponges for your powder application.
My idea is that this powder isn’t for everybody because it’s got some drawbacks. But unfortunately, there aren’t any ideal makeup products which flatter absolutely everyone. I take off one star for a non-versatile type of application. But in general, the product is decent, in my opinion.
