I’ve been using the same mascara for years, but sometimes I receive other ones to check out and compare.
This time it’s NYX Professional Makeup Doll Eye Mascara.
According to its name, one can expect the effect of false lashes - but what did the brand mean by it? Most likely, we’ll imagine long lashes, full of volume and curled up - all in one. But if you flip the box over, you’ll see something unexpected - a promo photo. Personally I saw a horrifying eye with short clumped lashes, which are appropriate maybe only at a fashion show.
‘Everything’s lost’ I thought, but there was nowhere to retreat I got up the nerve and applied the mascara.
And what? Nothing. Nothing scary, I mean. The effect wasn’t as horrible as I expected, looking at the photo on the packaging.
The mascara is available in three versions, and I have the third, waterproof one. The first and the second ones are supposed to lengthen and give volume, respectively.
Product information (which I’ll discuss later):
Hello, dollface! For irresistibly fluttery eyelashes, try this mascara on for size. Doll Eye Mascara uses a unique blend of natural oil and nylon fibers to extend lashes to almost faux proportions. Choose from our Doll Eye Mascara in Long Lash, Volume or Waterproof.
I don’t recall using waterproof mascaras at any point earlier, so I can say it’s my first experience with them.
The mascara comes in a very cute 8g. tube. The brush is quite classic - not a silicone one, and handy. My favorite color, my favorite size. Why does size matter? Because I’m so freaking tired of these countless innovations when they make space ships out of mascara brushes, which results in huge and ugly things I’m afraid even to touch. So I prefer rather little and simple brushes, like this one.
This brush is curved and comfortable to use (though I stain my upper lid with it just like with other mascaras).
In my opinion, it takes too much out and I have to remove the excess by scraping the brush up against the inside of the tube, otherwise the result will look just as horrible as in the photo on the packaging.
The color of the mascara is really rich, I like it when a mascara is pure black, not dark grey or something.
In general, I like the effect I get. However, I know that other mascaras can make my lashes look better (even though they are pale, short and straight). The mascara curls and lengthens them, and gives volume, you know, a little bit of everything. What I like is that they look pretty natural : enhanced, black, separated.
But if you apply the second layer (or just don’t remove the excess from the brush), it would be hard to avoid them sticking together. Usually I’m content with one layer.
Now about it being waterproof - I didn’t know it at first. I found it out not because I had problems with makeup removal (actually, there are no problems at all - it effortlessly removes with any cleanser or micellar water), I just finally saw the words ‘waterproof’ on the box.
If we consider it a waterproof mascara, it’s really odd. When in contact with water, it turns into clumps.
Yesterday I got caught in the rain and when I arrived home, I saw those clumps on my eyelashes. There weren’t many, but still. As a newbie in the field of waterproof makeup, I thought that such mascaras must stay on regardless of weather.
I would give the mascara 4 stars, but it failed at being waterproof, so only 3. The mascara isn’t bad, so if you are not interested in its water-resistance, I can highly recommend it.
