PUR Cosmetics Midnight Masquerade Face Palette - review

I think Sephora affects me in a weird way. You see, when I’m there, I buy every drivel. I couldn’t pass by the PUR Cosmetics counter because it was so bright, eye-catching and beautiful. In the end, I have this not-very-me Midnight Masquerade eyeshadow palette.

About the price

I bought it for $38 which is far from being affordable, in my book. I was hooked on those colors which my collection lacks.

About the packaging

It’s decent: thick paper cover in a thick paper book palette.

The palette was sealed and it also had a plastic liner that protected every row.

It also has a mirror, which I don’t know is more like a pro or a con.

It’s said that the left side of the palette is for face because it has a highlighter, a bronzer, and a purple something. While the right side is for eye makeup - 6 refill pans of eyeshadows in different shapes. The big refills look interesting and adorned with a pattern. I felt sorry to use and destroy them.

The shelf life is 6 months of opening. That’s not much, huh?

About the consistency and aroma

This is where I want all your attention. All the refills in the palette have a butter-like texture, even though they’re still dry. That’s very weird, especially for a matte formula.

The color payoff is top notch. These seem to be the same as Natasha Denona eyeshadows. One lightest swatch and the payoff is already shocking. I was also surprised by their wear time. However, they do fall out when I apply them, so do your eyes first and then apply a foundation.

Most of the shades eventually press down, especially those which I used to apply with my fingertips. The aroma is very interesting, so coconut and nut. It blows my mind off. It doesn’t feel potent or unnatural. It never annoys me when I use the palette.

About the shades

Have a look at the swatches of the face products:

The Twilight highlighter is a little bit too thick for me but if you love the delicate finish, you’ll fall for it. It has a very nice and well-balanced shade which will flatter gals with any skin tone and undertone. However, it may define skin texture, though.

I love wearing this shade as an eyeshadow. Here I have it over the big Reveal shade:

And here on top of the bronzing Enchantment:

The Hidden Secret blush is really (really!) pigmented. I find it hard to work with. Only a huge and soft brush, aka RT can tame it. But still, I love its shade.

As for the bronzer and a purple shade, I didn’t succeed at taming them. The bronzer is somehow too red and with those chunky shimmers that peaks through. As for the purple shade, it doesn’t work for me as a blush but I like it as my eyeshadow, even though I’ve already gotten a small pile of purple eyeshadows.

But, I love eyeshadows from the palette. It’s another story to tell that the shades are not actually mine. All of them are shimmering, except for Sneak Peek. I love them all but I have to warn you they do require makeup skills for application. In a word, the palette won’t be good for the newbies.

About ethical aspect:

The product wasn’t tested on animals. It’s gluten-free and vegan-friendly. The packaging can be recycled.

Overall thoughts

I don’t know. I somehow don’t want to reach for this palette, even though I’ve tried to use it for 3 weeks in a row to assess it and form my fullest opinion. I think that the palette isn’t bad but I’m not sure about its shelf life and refill pressing.

I won’t throw it away of course but still won’t use it that much.
