After reading a review about the Tom Ford Velvet Orchid perfume I understood that I definitely needed it. It was not so easy to find, but when I actually did, I fell in love with it.
The Pyramid of the scent:
Top notes: Bergamot, Mandarin, Succan absolute (purified rum extract) and honey.
Middle: Jasmine, Turkish Rose, Moroccan Rose, Magnolia, Hyacinth, Orange Blossom, Narcissus, Heliotrope, and Tom Ford’s imaginary “Black Orchid” accord (Black Orchid and Cattleva Leopoldii Orchid).
Base: Peru Balsam, Myrrh, Amber, Sandalwood, Suede, and Comoro Island vanilla.
The bottle has a beautiful rich dark-purple color.
The first diffusion…. I was waiting for something magical to happen.
It was rather sweet and all. Where are all the flower scents? Where is the scent of luxury, I kept asking myself. Everything felt very subdued. No matter how much I tried, I couldn’t feel that scent. The intention and the scent of the perfume I could make out only in the morning, when I was looking through my clothes and I slightly touched the dress I was wearing the day before. Days after days I was trying to catch that vague scent, and was almost upset until people around me started asking me about my perfume, which suits me perfectly according to their opinion.
Hot climate helps this perfume to reveal that magical aethereal flower scent on my skin.
When it was cold and frosty outside I couldn't catch the smell from the perfume, but in the sun, heat and humidity the flower blossomed.
The honey sweetness changed with jasmine and magnolia tenderness and a slight tiny note of orchid.
At the end of the day the velvet scent was wrapping around me and then I found myself in this scent, trapped in its power, hidden at first, aura which was pulsing around me and my every movement. I had this feeling that the scent didn’t linger, but was around me, giving me the motion and thoughts of freedom. It didn’t chase me obtrusively, it didn’t tire me down, as some other perfumes did. Sometimes I could even forget about it. But when I would stop to watch the sunset or think about the passing moments, the scent came back to me with a slight note of sea-breath, reminding me that it was here and that I was not alone or lonely.
Tom Ford Velvet Orchid was getting ready to make another blossom, just to bloom the petals of ether again.
Conclusion:
Tom Ford Velvet Orchid is more suitable for a warm climate and hot weather, it is unintrusive, soft and gentle. Sometimes I had a feeling that the scent had vanished, but in fact it was there. It is so difficult to figure out when it vanishes completely. It has a scent of romance and tenderness. In cool and wet weather it’s tough to make out. In certain weather it opens up very intricately.
