Hello everybody!
In reviews (or comments below) of some lipbalms I keep saying that “It won’t do well with very chapped and cracked lips, but as an everyday product, I like it”. So, in my today’s review I want to tell you about my “in case of emergency” lip ointment.
I want to note that those who love natural ingredients only, will not like this product. There’s a photo of the ingredients down below and a few words about them.
Blistex Medicated Lip Ointment
Description:
Blistex Lip Ointment contains four medications to provide relief from the pain, itching and discomfort of lip sores and blisters.
The moisture and emollient base hydrates and softens lip cells to alleviate cracking and seriously dry lips. Beauty professionals also routinely use Blistex Lip Ointment to return a smooth texture to lips before applying lip color. When using as a lipstick base, apply liberally and leave on lips for five minutes. Then remove excess with a tissue before applying color.
At first sign of cold sore, gently massage ointment into sensitive area.
For cracking or dryness, cover lips completely and rub gently until absorbed.
Recommendations:
Adults and children age 2 and older: Do not apply more than 4 times daily.
Children under 2 years old: Consult a physician.
Ingredients aren’t very good. There’s mineral oil, camphor and phenol. Luckily, the percentage is written.
Of course, I don’t like these ingredients. But I also don’t like the situations when I have to look great immediately, and my lips look like a real mess. And there’s no time waiting for natural ingredients to do their job.
But no matter which way you look at it, nowadays such ingredients are everywhere. Let’s take phenoxyethanol - a very popular preserving agent these days (there isn’t any in Blistex, but it’s in the many other lip balms) - so it splits off phenol and acetaldehyde (and acetaldehyde turns into acetate).
So here it is, if you’re concerned about the ingredients you’d better use only natural containing cosmetics with no preserving agents and so on, as absolutely everywhere there can be found a not very healthy component.
My impression.
The scent. Here it’s not like in any other natural lip balms. Blistex has minty-medical scent (I presume that they used mint to kill some other not very pleasant scent) I want to say that not everyone will like the scent of this ointment!!!
But I expect good scent only from the lip balms which I use every day, and in case of emergency I can survive it.
The packaging is very convenient with a special lip-applicator.
-the texture of the ointment reminds me of some very light cream.
-it spreads on in my lips very easily. At first, it gives very light fair color, which disappears quite fast.
-it cools my lips but not as much as Carmex
-the feelings on the lips depend on the amount of the ointment applied. When the product sinks in a bit, I don’t feel it on my lips (no fatty or oily film)
After I used this product my lips become softer, soother and taken care of. The ointment copes with peeling really well.
It also helps me out when I have severe dryness on my lips. Unfortunately, I can't say anything if this product is useful when you have cold sore.
And now, a more detailed review.
Blistex Medicated Lip Ointment helps me much better than any other lip balm which I possess.
If I don’t have any severe problems on my lips, I sometimes use it before applying lipstick or lipgloss. If I notice that there's some peeling, I use it several times a day. Or I also like to apply it in a thicker layer at night and then reapply in the morning. It really saves me. In the morning I can’t even see a hint of peelings and my lips look cared-for and softer.
Notice that it won’t heal severe crackers immediately, so it’ll better to take care of your lips in advance.
And I also don’t use this ointment as my everyday care routine product (because of the ingredients), I think that in winter I’ll need nourishing balm for everyday.
Conclusion. Blistex Medicated Lip Ointment is one of the products I use only when I need it. But, honestly, I haven’t had any severe problems for quite a while already. I think that's because of the balms, which I use quite often.
Thanks for your attention!
Have a great and exaggerated mood!
