No politics, no economy, because again, I’ll speak about eyeshadows today. Smile

Again, the brand has decided to tease us with the new unbiased eyeshadow shades from the new palette Colourpop Element of Surprise, which really stands out because of its budget-friendly price tag and amazing quality!

This palette literally turned my wish list upside down, as well as helped me to save $65 which I was already almost ready to splurge on the Desert Dusk eyeshadow palette by Huda Beauty. But, at the right time I quickly realized that the most desired shade from the Huda Beauty palette, which is mesmerising purple-lavender duochrome, can actually be created by mixing the two shades from the Element of Surprise palette.

And yes, I’m absolutely serious. You’ll have a chance to witness everything yourself. Smile But at first, some product info, as usual.

The palette was released in November 2017, yet there are not many reviews on the net about it.

Price: $16

Ingredients list:

Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Silica, Zinc Stearate, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Lauryl Laurate, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Polyethylene, Tridecyl Trimellitate, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Mineral Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Tin Oxide, Ethylhexylglycerin, Hexylene Glycol, Bismuth Oxychloride (CI 77163), Iron Oxides (CI 77491), Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891).

Weight of the eyeshadows: 0.85g each shade.

Package:

In the palette design, the mostly purple shades prevail. It’s made of some kind of a soft-touch material with a rubberized surface. And here we meet the first disadvantage - the palette is a massive dirt magnet. And I have to tell you that it’s rather tricky to wash off. In the set there was also a cardboard box included.

All the shade names are given on the palette as well as on the box.

There are 12 shades all in all of different finishes - here you can see matte, shimmer, sparkling and duochrome shades.

This is how the palette looks in the daylight:

Let’s start with the very first shade:

Feels: it’s a duochrome color that shines from white to pink. It’s very close to being opalescent, but since it’s badly pigmented, it’ll be best of all to apply it over some matte shade for the beautiful pinky casting.

Late Night: metallic copper bright and very pigmented eyeshadow. It looks like foiled copper.

Silk Street: it’s a matte purple burgundy shade. This one is very complicated. It’s really beautiful, thick and well-pigmented. It’s very easy to apply over my skin and blend out. It’s better to apply it with a dabbing motion, because it can sometimes apply patchy.

Rayon: metallic duochrome which seems yellow-coral with green casting. This one is very strange. The green particles have a big grain, hence it requires a tough synthetic brush for the application. The casting is barely visible, so be ready to pat the color a lot. Or don’t use it at all.

Go With the Flow: matte peachy shade which is absolutely fuss-free.

Subdue: the every shade that was the reason for me to purchase this palette! It’s a lavender duochrome with a pink and green sheen. It’s a foiled topper shade for me. If you mix it with the fuchsia shade that goes next, you’ll get the dupe of that hyped Twilight shade from the Desert Dusk palette from HUDA BEAUTY. Currently I do all my makeup looks with this shade. But you’ve got to be careful with this color. Over time, there appears a light greasy film on the surface of the pan. So use an applicator to apply it or a rather rough brush.

Opulent: shimmer fuchsia shade. It’s super vibrant and beautiful

Labyrinth: matte ashed rose

Blank Canvas: warm-toned matte brown shade with true red undertones.

Sea Stars: sienna muddy yellow matte shade

Peace of Mind: metallic shade, that looks like a foiled burgundy color

So now the swatches:

Here I swatches the products with my finder tip over my non-primed skin:

with an applicator over a primer:

As you can see the applicator shows the maximum of the pigmentation. In general, I’d advise you to apply all the ColourPop eyeshadows with foam applicators.

One more notable thing is that all the shades apply beautifully and don’t crease during the day, even if I don’t wear them over a primer.

And now the makeup looks Smile

Here I did my makeup with the Element of Surprise palette by Colourpop yet the accent shade is the Moon Lit from the Supernova Shadow collection.

Overall, the palette is excellent. It has its downsides with some shades, but they are so minor in comparison with the quality, pigmentation and beauty of other shades.

Thanks for reading my post!
