Fran Wilson Metallic Moods™ Lip Color - review

Have you ever used an adjustable lipstick? Unfortunately I haven’t. Even though I usually see that dollar stores offer green lipsticks that look pink on the lips.

But now we won’t speak about a green lipstick. But we’ll speak about a true black lipstick. Black lip products have become cult hits when they were released by the Givenchy and Givenchy houses. And of course I was among those who wanted to try them out as well. But they are pricey, you know. So now I want to speak to you about a cheaper dupe of these high-end brand lipsticks which is no way worse or maybe even better than the original. At least it’s my go-to lipstick currently.

 

So, meet the black lipstick by Fran Wilson.

It’s stylish, black and cardboard. In general I was attracted by the brand’s design very much. Even though they offer affordable products, they still offer decent packagings.

The box with the lipstick doesn't have any wrapping, so I had to check it in the store. I think that it’s better to check the products at stores so as not find out at home that the lipstick was opened and there was somebody who used it before you.

Inside the box you’ll find the lip color stick.

The tube is of black color and it has a see-through safety top cap. The lipstick comes out when you twist the silver part of it. (I hope you get my explanations)

 

Organoleptic qualities:

Shade. The lipstick looks absolutely black in the stick.

Here I applied it on my wrist and once it touched my skin, the color transformed into blackberry-like. You can control the color intensivity by layering the product. For example one layer looks rather light and nice for a daytime makeup, while two layers already look brighter and more evening-like.

But since the consistency of the lipstick is more like of a lip balm or a lip gloss, it won’t be so easy to cover up your natural lip pigment with it. This lipstick will definitely make your lips look better though it won’t make them look completely different. Texture-wise the product rings the bell of a lipstick, while its characteristics say that it’s more like a lip gloss.

They claim that the product is metallic. But the finish looks more oily or dewy, I’d say. There are the tiniest shimmer bits to the formula but they are very difficult to make out.

Scent. The product is almost unscented. I don’t feel it at all. Maybe there are some cosmetic notes to it but I can feel them slightly and only while application.

Consistency. The product is solid in the stick.

The lippie is pleasant to use as it glides nicely over my lips. I guess that’s because of the oils in the ingredients which start melting when they contact my warm skin. One layer is very lightweight and almost undetectable on my lips. The lips become nourished and moisturized. If you apply two layers, then you’ll have a thought that you applied a very nourishing lip balm on your lips.

Wear time. They say that the lipsticks wears for 6 hours. And I can tell you that it’s true if you don’t eat or drink. I have to say that the shiny finish fades throughout the wear and the lipstick becomes more like a lip tint. It won’t live up through a meal and will stay on only at the lip contours.

Comfort and application:

The stick is very pleasant when outlining my lips. I don’t need to use any brushes or other makeup tools. I’ve never done anything wrong with it. But if you still managed to cross the contours, then the lipstick is very easy to touch-up with a q-tip. But make sure to be quick as the formula sets within 30 seconds.

The product isn’t drying to my lips, it doesn’t make them tightened or anything. But I can’t say that it provides any significant lip care for me. The nourishing as well as moisture is minimal. Besides I can feel some moisture and nourishment only within a few hours after application before the moment when the lipstick starts sinking in.

 

I also appreciate the absence of any tacky feelings on my lips with this product on, when I apply it with one layer. If I apply more, than I can feel that my lips become a little bit sticky. But it doesn’t last long and usually stays on until the lipstick fully sinks it.

My impressions of use:

The lipstick is applied with one layer and I took a photo within a few seconds after application. Later the product will adjust and become brighter. ❤

❤ good wear time, provided that you don’t eat

❤ isn’t drying or tightening to my lips

❤ no tacky feel

To the disadvantages I can list:

✖ the poor lip care, even though it was promised by the manufacturer.
