Should I mention the fact that the brand was created by a tattoo artist Kat Von D, which offers quite a selection of different beauty and makeup products? First of all, the brand stands out because of the design it has (the so called gothic beauty) and of course there are a lot of absolutely unique and different shades of the products that they have. Let’s take their row pomades, for example, which are available in all the colours of the rainbow.
But here, in my review we’ll talk about a must-have of every girl, I think. A concealer.
Lock-it Concealer comes with 21 shades in the collection. 21! Can you imagine? That means that it won’t be a problem anymore to find the best match for your skin tone. There are so many different undertones of this concealers, which is so great.
The applicator is of an interesting form: it’s triangle and doe-foot. I like using it very much when I apply the concealer in dots.
Consistency
The product is pretty thick formula-wise. The consistency is a hybrid of something gel-like and creamy. It’s goopy and at the same time thick. (somehow it reminds me of the MAC concealer consistency, with the only difference is that the Kat Von D product seems to be a little bit more greasy.) It’ll be tricky then to blend this concealer evenly with your fingers, because of the texture it has. And if you use a brush, it may leave streaks behind. The best way to apply it is to use a sponge and it’s also very important to use a dry sponge, not wet. I tried to use a wet sponge and I always used to end up seeing concealer creases and it sets patchily. (I guess that it’s the formula that doesn’t go well with the wet application technique).
So, if you apply this concealer with a sponge and quickly blend it out, you’ll get a beautiful and even coverage then. It’ll be thick, though it won’t weigh down your skin at all. I can also see a very good highlighting effect from this product. It’s important to prep your under eye area before any concealer application. Make sure to apply your eye cream for a healthy and more glowy skin look.
Smell and my skin reaction
The product has a light, yet still detectable paint aroma. For me it clearly smells of water colors. I can’t say that it’s pleasant, but luckily it disappears very quickly. By the way, the product has never provoked any negative reaction of my skin to it. I’ve never had skin irritation, clogged pores or acne after its use. (I speak only about my experience). Of course good face wash is essential after the use of such a thick product.
Staying power
They claim that the concealer is long-wearing. And in general I can say that the promise is true to life. However, it still can settle into my skin crevices if I don’t set it with powder. But it’s okay, since the formula of the product is rather thick. This is why it’s better to use a lightweight powder after this concealer application and proper blending out. (Of course if your skin takes powders well).
The concealer stays in place even after a long working day on my skin. I mean I can still see its texture and a bit of dryness. Of course the dark under eye circles will be a tad detectable after the whole day of wearing and in general the product won’t look as though just applied.
For example, this is me, after 9 hours of the concealer being present over my skin.
In general, I’m delighted with my purchase. But I have to draw your attention that I deem, this concealer is still too heavy for everyday wear.
And despite all that, I still feel comfortable with it on my skin. It’s my little helper after a bad night's sleep, because in the morning it really makes me look fresh and beautiful.
