Laura Mercier loose powder is the world best-selling product of the brand. Its grain is usually called “french cashmere.”
For a long time I was dreaming of having that powder and when I flew to Europe for holidays, I ran to Sephora to buy it there. At the store, I found out that Laura Mercier also released their Translucent powder but in a pressed version. Pressed powders are much more handy to use because they are more practical, and can be easily used anywhere for touch-ups. I decided to buy it.
Price: 40 euros from Sephora.
My skin is mixed and it willingly allows oily sheen to appear over it very quickly. I expect oil control from this powder, as well as light complexion evening out that wouldn’t look heavy or cakey.
The compact with the power is glossy is really ergonomic. The mirror here is practical and big.
The lower part of the powder offers a sponge for application. It’s really soft and, thank God, not silicone. I use it to apply the powder. Usually, I don’t welcome featured sponges or brushes, but here Laura Mercier made a puff that beautifully distributes the product over my skin.
The product retails with two shades - Translucent and Translucent Medium Deep.
My skin is pale, so I chose the Translucent one.
It’s such a neutral fair shade, which doesn’t have any red or pink tones to the formula.
The powder feels lightweight on my skin and it even feels like silk by touch. It’s easy to pick up with my finger because the consistency is neither dry nor damp.

before / after
It seems to be skin relief diminishing, but it doesn’t even out my skin tone, though. However, that’s obvious because the product is claimed as translucent and setting.
It softly blurs out the appearance of my pores and they become less visible. I also want to note that throughout the day it doesn’t settle into my pores or fade away with patchy spots.
One more important thing that is attention-worthy is the product doesn't accentuate flaking patches.
Even though it is translucent, it still makes my skin appear smooth and even. At the same time, it never looks cakey. Just a light and invisible finish.
Oil control: the powder is totally matte - there aren’t any shimmer or any other glistening bits. But I’ve noticed one interesting thing about it. You see, if my skin is moisturized and a foundation has a dewy finish, this powder won’t make my skin look dead matte. It’ll leave a very natural glowing from within finish. I used to have some other powder from Elizabeth Arden and it gave an absolutely different finish due to the shimmer in the formula. Nothing of the kind with this product.
Staying power: well, this powder isn’t as long-wearing as many others that I’ve tried. I can already detect that oily sheen on my skin within 3-4 hours, which I have to either blot or erase with a powder. So, the staying power isn’t solid.
The formula is non-comedogenic and it doesn’t provoke any woes on my skin.
Why am I so obsessed with this Laura Mercier Translucent Pressed Powder? Because it’s setting and perfect for combo skin types, in my opinion. It nicely covers up all the pores. It doesn’t stand out with its wear time, but still, it’s able to keep the oily shine at bay. I also appreciate that it comes off delicately. Such a great thing! I recommend!
