There’s nobody surprised by contouring. Though it was not until much later when only professional makeup artists used this technique and those who were in the beauty industry.
Since social networks (especially Instagram) caught the entire world, girls must look their best in pictures. We all want to look beautiful and hide small imperfections, don’t we? Make the nose visually thinner, wipe off the cheeks, define cheekbones and make the forehead look smaller. I guess every makeup brand has already came up with their own contouring product, and Maybelline NY isn't any exception! Once it was available in stores I immediately purchased it. What can be better than contour and highlight in one stick?
The product looks like a small yet wide stick. It’s housed in a rather thick plastic package. The top cap is clear so it’ll be stained with products over time (if you don’t close it neatly).
MASTER CONTOUR exists in two colors: «Light» 01 and «Medium» 02.
I suppose that the first one is more universal and will flatter almost any skin tone, so without any further ado I picked up the Light color for me.
The dark side of the stick is a perfect brown color which is so nice for contouring fair skin. The lighter side is a very delicate highlighter that has no shimmer and looks almost the same color as my skin, giving it a slight dewy finish.
This contour stick has a creamy texture. And if you are a newbie in the cruel world of contouring then this product is the best to start with as it blends out beautifully even with fingertips. If you ask me, I found this was the best way to blend the products out. I start to blend out the edges with my fingertips and then dab the product with a brush to create a natural smokey effect.
I like this natural finish I get.
The only con is the two products may mix together. If I apply the contour color, it stains the lighter side with its pigment. Each time I have to wipe the stick gently before the fair color application.
These products don’t show peeling on my normal to dry skin. They hold on for 7-8 hours without powder and don’t crease. I can’t imagine how these products will behave on oily skin and if they need to be set with powder contouring. By the end of the day both the contouring and highlighter fade on my face and it look less intense.
Honestly I don’t understand why there are so many girls which are pissed off with the size of the stick. At first sight it might look too small and it twists out and there isn’t a lot of the product inside. BUT! The highlight and contour are so pigmented that one touch is enough to contour the entire face!
The spending is very low!
I apply it following the standard technique: I darken the sides of my forehead and nose, define cheekbones and slightly touch the contours of my face with it. I highlight the bridge of the nose, brow bone and cheekbones.
And here’s the result that I gain with the Maybelline Master Contour V-Shape Contouring Duo Stick.
I like using this product! I like the natural shadow effect (without rough edges) and light delicate glowing too. Currently, this stick is the best everyday contouring product that is easy to take up with me and touch up when needed. With this very contouring shade you can be sure that you’ll never end up having red cheeks or stains.
I can sincerely recommend the Maybelline Master Contour V-Shape Contouring Duo for newbies as well as makeup junkies (and professionals of course) as this product will take up minimum time and effort but in return you’ll get the maximum result.
