Finally I bought this popular concealer from Maybelline and even though I bought the wrong color, I really liked it. In this review I’ll describe its properties and the way I use it.
I had problems getting concealer out of the tube. The first time I took off the cap, I spilled a lot of the product onto the sponge (that’s why it is so messy.) In order to use it correctly, one should turn the upper part a few times.
The packaging is nice, the cap holds firmly.
The product has a barely detectable cosmetic smell. Almost scentless.
Creamy. The concealer isn’t runny and it applies and blends easily. It doesn’t have a great lasting power and quickly settles into fine lines, so it’s better to apply a face powder over it. But thanks to its consistency, the concealer doesn’t feel heavy on the gentle skin in the eye area and doesn’t dry it out.
I bought the dark color by mistake, but in the end I learned how to use it. It’s far from natural, with a distinct yellowishness.
The finish is semi-matte and powdery. Don’t apply too much, otherwise the concealer will accentuate all uneven spots. Applying many coats is also not recommended.
Let me show you how it covers red spots. To demonstrate the coverage, I applied a few lip tints with different pigmentation.
In the photo below you can see how great this concealer covered them. Even the brightest tint is barely visible now. I’m not trying to say that it’s a wow effect, but I think it’s good enough.
Despite a few cons, I don’t regret buying this concealer. It hides my under eye circles and doesn’t emphasize all the wrinkles like some other concealers do.
My skin is pale now and this very shade doesn’t suit it, so I use this concealer in the following ways:1) I mix it with a lighter shade of another concealer, which makes the finish less matte and the coverage more dense.
2. Or I apply my foundation over it. It’s also not bad, but this accentuates any tiny wrinkles so I prefer the first way.
- Semi-matte finish
- Doesn’t dry out my skin
- Gives great coverage
- Can be mixed with other products
- too few colors in the line, it’s hard to choose the right one
- settles into lower lid crease
The bottom line: I think this Maybelline concealer is really not bad, even though I complement it with some other makeup products. Just be more careful and try to choose the right shade for you!
