Pros: colors, good quality

Do you love highlighters? You see, I don’t catch the trends too quickly, as many other people. This is why for a long time I used to question myself if I really need an illumination product for my face…

I also used to use my eyeshadows as a highlighter and was pretty delighted with the result. I can say that I’ve tried all the dupes of the famous highlighters by the Balm, which beauty bloggers mentioned.

But with time passing by, I understood that I spend more money looking for a cheaper dupes, when I can actually buy a good product that will really work fine for me. This is how I actually bought my first real highlighter Mary-Lou Manizer by the Balm which I broke down recently, alas…

The are so many brands out there in the market which release different illuminators and highlighters nowadays. And of course the NYX Cosmetics has something to show us.

Today I’ll show you two versatile palettes with the illuminating powders by one of my favorite brands…

Shades #06 Brick Road and #05 Crushed Rose

There were 6 palettes available at the moment when I was buying these, and I can say that they all look almost the same.

Price - $10

You can buy this product on the official brand site or in the branded corners in shops.

One palette offers 8.76 g of the content which is a lot. I can’t imagine how can I use this product up especially given that it expires within 24 months...

Yet I still always use the powders and eyeshadows longer.

What do you think- is it okay to use a pressed powder product after they are expired?

Reach new heights of radiance with Away We Glow™ Illuminating Powder! Available in six luminous color collages, each compact includes four shades of creamy pressed powder in various finishes—from matte to soft shimmer. Wear each tone alone or layer together to create the perfect highlighter.

It’s rather typical for the brand. The plastic material is sturdy. No brush or mirror provided, though.

The top lid of the palette is rather easy to open, so be sure that your manicure will be fine. Smile

The product consists of four triangle pans which don’t have any separation inside. You can pick up every shade separately for contouring your face features, for example. Or you can mix all the powders and get a bronzer or a shiny blush product (it’ll depend on the palette you have).

  • It’s dry, though it feels a tad creamy to the touch

  • It’s very pleasant to apply to my skin

  • The powders are a little bit dusty, as many other pressed powder products.

The products are no way finicky during application, as the powders blend out nice and on the first go already boast good color coverage on my skin.

1. For the highlighting effect, apply the product to the following facial areas: forehead center, under your eyes, bridge of the nose, over the brow bones, and to the center of your chin.

2. Apply the darker shade to deepen the following face parts: sides of the forehead and hairline, under your cheekbones, sides of the nose and the bottom part of your chin.

06 Brick Road

This is a palette of milky-cream, bronzing, fair golden and red-brick shades.

It’s very difficult to show you all the beauty of the shades through the camera. So I want to say that what you can see in the pictures is just a small part of a noble metal glow these powders show.

The products look astonishing on the skin, making it glowing with health.

Here, for example I used the fairest shades as a highlighting powder and then applied the darkest shades as a contouring product (I know that the contour powder should be matte but... ).

I really wanted to use the bronzing shade as eyeshadows: here it’s applied on my eyes solo, even though it seems like there are a lot of different shades over my lids…

In these pictures you can see the highlighter applied mixed with other shade. But still it looks as though I applied all of them separately.

#05 Crushed Rose

This palette is drier texture-wise as it offers more matte shades.

This is a palette of peachy, pink and creamy shades which work wonders as a highlighting and blushing product.

I didn’t like these powders on my eyes, as it looked as though I cried a lot, even though I tried to contour them with an eyeliner.

Usually I mix the pink and peachy shades together and apply it as a blusher on the apples of my cheeks and then apply some highlighter on my:

  • bridge of the nose

  • chin

  • brow bone

  • cheekbones

  • Cupid’s bow

I like that delicate and gentle glow this highlighter shows on my skin.

Make sure to even out your skin tone before you apply the highlighter, otherwise it’ll highlight all your skin blemishes.

Don’t believe those beauty bloggers who say: “I wake up in the morning, wash my face, apply a tad of highlighter to my face and that’s it, I’m ready to go”. That’s not true, guys, unless they have very good skin, maybe…

  • The NYX AWAY WE GLOW ILLUMINATING POWDER stays the entire day on my face if I applied it over a primer or a foundation. By the end of the day, the pigment might look less bright and obvious.

  • It washes off with a micellar water or a face cleanser.

  • It doesn’t cause any skin reactions like acne or clogged pores.

Thoroughly recommended!
