Hello there!
I’d like to share my thoughts of NYX HD Studio Photogenic Primer.
A few words about face primers in general.
A face primer is a product that preps your skin for foundation application. It evens out the skin’s texture, hydrates flaking, minimizes the appearance of fine lines and mattifies/moisturizes the skin (the primers are different and you should find yours suitable to your skin type). There are also primers that have a lifting effect or a photoshop effect, blurring the skin and making the process of foundation application a wee easier.
I have a lot of products by NYX and in general I can say that I love this brand and the product it releases.
My skin: It’s dry, flaky with an oily T-zone in summer. So I need a primer to give moisture to my skin yet doesn't make my face oily. It should provide me with a better staying power of my foundation and ease the process of blending.
This primer by NYX is called HD Studio Photogenic as it claims to be a photoshoot product.
Designed to be paired with NYX Cosmetics High Definition Foundation, this water-based makeup primer helps minimize appearance of pores and fine lines for a seamless finish. The HD Studio Photogenic Primer Base helps improve foundation performance and wear.
The product has a slight white-blue cast and gives blur to my skin while application. I also notice that this primer makes my skin a tad paler. But I’m not concerned about it since I can see the product working, giving my face a healthy glow and erasing my pores.
Even though this primer is water-based, it’s highly concentrated. Be careful, as you’ll need a pea-sized drop of the product to apply all over you face. The tube is squeezable so it can give out more than needed. The thinnest layer of the product on your face is all you actually need. It’s cool, I presume, as it automatically means that the product is economical.
You need to be fast to apply this primer, as it sets very quickly. I usually apply it with my fingertips as the warmth of my fingers lets the product glide over my face and blend well. I don’t apply my foundation right after the primer. I wait for another 1-2 minutes to let the primer adhere to the skin and only after that I apply some foundation.
The GOOD about NYX HD Studio Photogenic:
erases all the pores and small fine lines well, yet leaves my skin moisturized
foundation looks very beautiful over this primer
gives a healthy glow
looks natural in photos
helps to prolong the wear of foundation
has a mild fragrance which is difficult to make out
I want to draw attention to the fact that this product doesn’t work solo. I mean you need to use foundation or at least powder over it!
I’m sure that pals with combination skin type with love it! But if you break out from time to time, it’ll be better for you to ignore this product.
I hope that my review was interesting for you!
