I really love and cherish different finishing and halo loose powders and I try to use them all the time. These are products which actually make my skin look glowing with health, yet giving it no shimmer shine at the same time. I also really like the way they make my complexion appear better and more fresh.
One of the main loose powders for me is the Shiseido Translucent Powder which sometimes is pretty tricky to find. Alike many other similar powders (let’s take the famous meteorites by Guerlain, which lie somewhere about my vanity and I don’t use them), this Translucent powder is very subtle and delicate for my skin. It beautifully makes my skin look glowing from within and has never made me look like a Christmas ball, which all the other setting powers like doing so eagerly.
I had no idea where to find a dupe for that Shiseido powder which would have the same smallest grain and natural-looking result on the skin, when I finally found it by the NYX Professional Makeup in the Holographic Halo collection.
You can’t even imagine how happy I was then.

Glow your own way using Holographic Halo Finishing Powder! This ultra-fine loose powder comes in two pearly shades and delivers an ethereal look that’s crazy gorgeous. Lightly dust it all over your complexion to set and softly illuminate, or along the highest points of the face—like the bridge of the nose, cheekbones or Cupid’s bow—to add a touch of radiance here and there.
And I have to say that all the promises are true to life. But let’s list the first things first.
PACKAGE
It’s rather simple yet still stylish, strict-looking and sophisticated. It’s an identifiable branded jar of neutral black colors with holographic lettering to support the HOLOGRAPHIC name of the collection.
I really love the NYX brand for a thoroughly thought out design of any makeup product they retail. Each small detail and even the smallest letter is always very thought-out.
The package with the powder is actually a screw on top jar. I don’t find such packagings convenient, but they are so typical for loose powders. Inside you’ll see a sifter which gives out the powder.
At first the upper cap was sealed with plastic so as not to spill the powder all over the package while transporting. Now I store this powder on my vanity and I don’t need to use that seal anymore, as I can pick up as much of the powder as I need, being sure that I won’t spill it all over my room.
By the way, the inner construction of this powder really reminds me of the Shiseido product…
TEXTURE AND SHADE
This NYX HOLOGRAPHIC HALO Finishing Powder is of ultra-fine grain, hence it has the lightest and softest texture.
It’s very easy to pick up with a brush and apply all over my skin.
Of course you have to use a light hand and shake off the excess amount of powder to apply it with the lightest veil so as not to make your complexion look cakey. I also want to advise you to use a big and fluffy brush.
The #02 Magical color is absolutely true to life. It’s so magical, charming and glamorous…
You can use this product as a bronzer, blusher or semi-transparent finishing powder, depending on the amount of powder you use.
Of course, in comparison with the Translucent powder by Shiseido, this NYX Holographic Halo 02 can seem to be too dark and bright. (I deem that the true dupe for the Shiseido Powder will be the first color Mermazing by NYX) but…
if you apply the right amount of it on your face, it’ll definitely look the same, making your complexion appear glowing with health and really fresh.
I have a very fair complexion and I should say that even on my pale skin, this #02 product doesn’t look odd.
When I pair it with my foundation drops, they create a very beautiful and perfect-looking coverage on my skin.
Its holographic play of color creates a very beautiful lit from within skin effect making my skin look super polished.
But I also can wear it alone on my nude skin and I assure you that this way the powder also looks very beautiful:
If I want to use this powder as a bronzer, then I take a densely packed brush for the application. With the same brush I can also use it as an incorrect contour product.
It’s subjective, yet still I do believe that this NYX Holographic Halo Finishing Powder has only positive sides:
it makes my skin glowing with health and fresh;
it doesn’t show flaking;
it’s really versatile (you can even use this powder as an eyeshadow);
it doesn’t clog pores and doesn’t dry out my skin;
my makeup stays on well the entire day if I set it with this powder
the texture is very light and weightless
This NYX powder goes a really long way (you need the tiniest bit of the product to create a beautiful veil coverage on your face), which means that it’s price is fair for the content.
