I’m bringing you my review of rather contradictory NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils. I have them in two shades: #601 Black Bean and #623A Purple Velvet.
The products come with a white package and a transparent top cap. They aren’t retractable, so you’ll have to use a special sharpener that has an opening for a large pencil.
I found two ways of using these pencils: over my waterline and as basic shades for my eyeshadows. If I apply the products over my nude skin and don’t set them with eyeshadows, then they immediately crease and smudge.
That’s why these aren’t eyelining pencils.
The quality of the products depends on their shades, so I’ll speak about them separately.
601 Black Bean
Black, uber soft and fatty pencil. That’s why it’s so easy to apply and blend out. It never scratches my eyelids. If I don’t set it with a dry eyeshadow, then it’ll start creasing. So it isn’t a good solo-wear option.
Here the black Jumbo pencil works as a base shade for a maroon dry Venus XL shades.
This shade can stay on my waterline for about 4 hours and then it’ll fade away.
Here I applied the product on my waterline.
623A Purple Velvet
The purple shade doesn’t apply as thick as the black one. Moreover, it shines into a blue hue. Here the blending is much worse, that’s why I have to apply it all over my mobile lid if I want to use it as a base shade.
Well, here’s proof that the product creased while I was doing the other eye.
Unfortunately, this shade creases even if I set it with a dry-textured eyeshadow.
My makeup was alright only for 2 hours and then everything creased awfully.
As for the waterline, well it doesn’t stay there at all. And I wanted a long-wear beautiful purple eye pencil so much.
Pros:
Cons:
the creasing it too quick, no chance to wear solo
no staying power on the waterline
the purple shade is impossible to apply to the waterline at all
I can’t say that I’m completely disappointed with these eye pencils, because the black one is still possible to apply on the waterline and use for my PM bright makeup. But the purple… This one made me frustrated in all respects.
