I was looking and sighing at this palette for a long time. It’s so beautiful, isn’t it? And it weighs 20g!
But the price was hefty.
In fact, I was looking at it and it was looking at me and we both knew that we belong together.
The only fact that actually stopped me from the immediate purchase was that I have a slightly bigger pile of makeup than a standard person might need in his/her lifetime.
But, the fault was in the stars that this palette was at a special price in one of the stores and it pushed me for purchasing.
At first, I added Cali to the cart and then placed the order.
When it was delivered, I discovered how small it actually looked. I don’t know why but I anticipated a bigger palette, while this one seemed really tiny.
In comparison with my lens cap:
By the way, the shelf life of 24 months of opening is given only on the upper three shades. The rest will probably last a lifetime.
The palette is made of thick paper. It’s magnetic and significantly heavy. It has a good mirror, so we made friends quickly.
There are 6 shades: matte sculpting powder, golden highlighter, matte bronzer, light matte powder, bronzing highlighter, matte blusher.
All the powders are soft and as though silky by touch. I don’t feel any chunky bits or shimmer at all. One more thing - it feels that they add a smell. But luckily, I can only smell it if I place the palette right under my nose. It’s really strange: not floral, nor chemical, or sweet, or bitter. It’s just there and I can feel it.
I swatched the powders with my fingers over my clean skin without any primers or magic.
One layer:
The sculpting powder is natural, it isn’t red or gray-toned. It’s neutral and will flatter many gals.
The highlighter is soft and shimmer-less.
The bronzer is just what it should be. It doesn’t look red or anything.
The powder may even flatter you if your skin tone is fair. It won’t make you look pale if you blend it out well and won’t pack too much.
The orange highlighter bronzer is a powerful thing! Treat it carefully and with love, otherwise, there’s a chance of staining your skin with it.
Blusher- It’s really blushing and not pink or red. It’s an average shade for daily makeup for everyone. It’s pretty bright but it applies gently.
All the products are easy to pack and they don’t stain my skin at all. Two layers look more obvious and show their on pan coverage.
It’s obvious that a brush won’t pack them for an on-pan coverage. After all, these aren’t eyeshadows. However, you can still use them that way - and here you are, the goddess’s makeup is ready.
My skin looks great with it and it doesn’t disappear too quickly. The highlighter is here to sleek my makeup and make me look a few pounds thinner. But only visually, alas. Other products still need better testing.
But, the palette has its downside - the powders are dusty, that’s a fact.
The light matte powder is two times dustier than other powders.
But even given that drawback, the Cali palette will be enough to use for a lifetime. It’s durable, besides, there’s a lot of the products in it.
Given the price tag of $39, one refill with the powder costs $6.50! Huh! Very affordable, indeed! Even the NYX products will be pricier, while here we have a Smashbox product which is also beautifully packed to top it off.
Isn’t that fantastic?
