Face contouring is an essential part of makeup. One can easily adjust volume, e.g. add or remove where necessary, emphasize the oval of the face and even make it appear visually younger and more healthy, thanks to the light and dark shades of the contour powders.

Now MAC releases their new palette for contouring, which is available in two shades Light/Medium and Medium Dark/Dark. I have mine in Light/Medium.

Palette- Matte plastic with a big mirror inside. It’s light and thin. The palette doesn’t include any brushes, anyways, I always use mine.

It offers 6 refills here. The upper section consists of light correctors, while the lower section is dark.

Emphasize — off white

Cream — beige with a yellow undertone

Accentuate — beige with pink undertone

All the shades seem to be more satin texture-wise.

Taupe — mauve-brown sculpting shade. (This one is more neutral-toned. No cool tone here.) It’s very well pigmented.

Sculpt — this one is fairer with a more moderate pigmentation.

Bone Beige — bronze shade with a red undertone. All the products have a matte texture.

So, who is this palette for? For the ones with a warm-toned/neutral skin tone. I guess if your skin is snow white, you’d better skip it.

The fairest shade Emphasize is an ideal highlighter for those who adore delicate glow from within and hates lumpy shimmer. Cream and Accentuate are perfect for neutralizing the unwanted pink or yellow undertones thanks to their colors. They’ll also be fine for “wiping” off of the contour shade, in case you applied too much.

I have a question to the shades Taupe and Sculpt, though. The difference between them lies only in their pigmentation and color payoff respectively. I wish the difference there wasn’t so subtle and I could see more distinctiveness between them. (For example, they could have done the Taupe shade more cool-toned, right?). And the Bone Beige shade will be a go-to bronzer for the fair skinned.

All the shades are soft with an average pigmentation. Only the Taupe product is too dusty and bright. All of them apply on my skin very easily, polishing into it and leaving no streaks or anything else. Staying power - all night long, even if I don’t set them with a powder.

Overall 4 stars (this is all due to those two similar shades and the absence of a more cool-toned contour powder there).

Price: $39.50
