Hello! I’d like to share my negative review of this Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer. I have a deluxe sample of it, thank God and I really feel sorry for those who splurged for the full size that costs $21!

The brand offers several shades of the product in the collection and I have it in Light. In fact, it’s fair beige with a peach undertone. It doesn’t blend seamlessly onto my lid skin at all and I can see it because it doesn’t adjust after application.

The consistency isn’t soft or fatty but dry and it’s a pain in the ass to apply it smoothly with a sponge. More or less gliding, it goes only when I apply it with my fingertip.

The sponge flattens some time later because of the plasticine consistency of the product. The bristles get tougher which results in patches and splotches in coverage on my lids, even if I apply the most expensive eyeshadows with the fluffiest brush.

And I could bear it all if only the product did its job well but it doesn’t. I mean it doesn’t let my eyeshadows live a longer life and stay put. Within 4-5 hours my makeup turns messy and all my eyeshadows crease. That’s too bad. Sad:(

And one more terrible detail about this primer.

After a while, there appeared a stinking smell from it, like glue or something. But I can’t see anything like that in the ingredients. That really spooks me. By the way, here’s the list of ingredients from Sephora:

Isododecane, Hydrogenated Coco-Glycerides, Beeswax\Cera Alba\Cire D Abeille, Silica, Boron Nitride, Quaternium-90 Bentonite, Talc, Microcrystalline Wax\Cera Microcristallina\Cire Microcristalline, Propylene Carbonate, Cetyl Peg/Ppg-10/1 Dimethicone, Polyglyceryl-4 Isostearate, Hexyl Laurate, Betaine, Glycerin, Peg-12 Glyceryl Dimyristate, Tremella Fuciformis Sporocarp Extract, Water\Aqua\Eau, Isopropyl Titanium Triisostearate, Phenoxyethanol, Potassium Sorbate, [+/- Mica, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499), Bismuth Oxychloride (Ci 77163), Blue 1 Lake (Ci 42090), Carmine (Ci 75470), Chromium Hydroxide Green (Ci 77289), Chromium Oxide Greens (Ci 77288), Ferric Ammonium Ferrocyanide (Ci 77510), Ferric Ferrocyanide (Ci 77510), Manganese Violet (Ci 77742), Ultramarines (Ci 77007), Yellow 5 Lake (Ci 19140)]

So, never recommended! I also read that girls fit it into their makeup as a corrector but I can barely imagine that. The product is useless. I still can’t throw it away but I won’t use it as a corrector ever. The shade isn’t mine.

It’s also noteworthy that earlier I used to have another primer from Smashbox, which was 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer. It was packed in a silver tube with a nozzle dispenser.

That was a game changer! It was way better! In fact, I’m rather positive to the brand and I’ve never had such disappointing products from them before.
