The beauty industry is developing quickly to pump us with some new beauty products. Looking back 5 years ago, for example, I couldn’t have even imagined that one day we’ll have such a product like a lip exfoliator.
At first sight it may look superfluous, as our grandmas used to rub their lips with a toothbrush and that was pretty much what they did about their lip exfoliation.
But now, the assortment of different beauty products is so wide and various that I won’t be surprised if one day they release a particular left lap exfoliator and people will be anxiously waiting in queues to buy it first.
I have to say that this mint exfoliator by E.L.F. hasn’t become a real discovery for me, yet I have to admit that I use it with great pleasure. So today I want to tell you about why I use it and why I have actually liked it a lot.
E.L.F. Cosmetics, Lip Exfoliator, Mint Maniac, 0.11 oz (3.2 g)
I liked this product because of the following reasons: my lips are chap-prone. And not even lip balms can deal with my problematic lips. Besides I’m a matte lipstick junkie and we all know that dry, chapped lips and a matte lipstick aren’t actually a good combo, so I desperately needed to find a way out. One day I decided that a lip exfoliator will be a good product for me. And if it wouldn’t be working and strong enough to fight my lip problems, at least I won’t feel sorry for the spent money. This is what I was thinking about.

It’s a plastic matte tube with a glossy insertion in the middle. It came packaged with a cardboard box. The tube looked like a regular lipstick at the first sight.

The bottom has a see-through window for us to see the content inside. I’ve already seen such a design before, as I have three more lipsticks with the same transparent bottom part. But here, it won’t open. The bullet with the lip exfoliator is easy to twist up and untwist as well.
This lip exfoliator looks like a lipstick. The edge is cut for a more convenient use. The aroma isn’t classic mint but for me it smells like an old minty tea which has been in a cup for about 3 hours.
It’s tightly pressed and it doesn’t crumble when I untwist the stick. However, it can go chunky and crumble during application.
I can’t feel any cooling sensation on my lips which I’d like to experience very much. And if I accidentally touch it with my tongue, I can feel that the product has a sweet flavour. I mean it’s absolutely true that it’s infused with sugar beads.

My lips are always dry, chapped and flaking, even though different lip balms and chapsticks are my best friends all the time. (I apply them every two hours, seriously).
My nude lips:

Here I played a smile to show you all the “beauty” of my problematic lips:
my nude lips as they are
I use this scrub only when I need it, I don’t have any particular schedule. I usually exfoliate my lips the day I’m going to wear a matte lipstick and usually do it before application.
I apply the product right from the stick in back and forth motions as though applying a lipstick, keeping a slight smile on my lips to stretch them.
while exfoliation
It feels as though I rub my lips with a crystallized honey or just with a wet and pressed sugar. The product doesn't scratch my lips but on the contrary it exfoliates them nicely, leaving clean and dead cells free. I can’t say that this exfoliation is gentle but I can say it for sure that they product doesn’t bring any harm to my lips. Usually I move the stick back and forth over my lips for about 30 seconds and then use my finger to rub my lips with the product on for the better effect. And here I want to draw your attention that the beads of sugar don’t melt on my skin at all.
Even though this lip exfoliator is called “Mint” it still doesn’t give any cooling sensation.
While exfoliating:

All in all it takes me about a minute to exfoliate my lips properly and during that time I can see that all the problems, that actually used to make my lips look ugly, simply vanish.
In the end I wash the product off my lips with water and apply a fatty lip balm. After that my lips are burning, though I find this sensation pretty pleasant. It seems as though the skin on my lips revives and I can clearly feel the clear and comfortable sensations after this procedure. (Don’t forget that I always have chapped lips and flaking but here after the use of this product, those comfortable sensations are just heaven for me. It feels as though I can feel it with every skin cell on my lips).
Aside from the exfoliating effect, this product also gifts me the nourishing effect, thanks to the skin beneficial oils in the ingredients. I can even see a light film after using, let alone the nourishing sensation on my lips after the use.

Attention!
It’s better not to twist the stick up fully out of the tube, otherwise there’s a risk of breaking it down while use. I twist it up only one third, which is enough.

All the lipsticks will apply better after the use of this product, even better than if I applied a lip balm beforehand.
my lips are soft and gentle after the use of this lip exfoliator
this product nicely prepares my lips for a lipstick application
It’s absolutely true that a lip exfoliator is a very good product, especially for those who are the same couch-potatoes as me. BUT there’s only one thing that I have to tell you: you’ll get the same result if you use a crystallized honey or dampen some sugar with water to exfoliate your lips. But this option will never work for me, because I’m too lazy to bother with it. I know myself and I’m more sure to walk with my lips chapped, rather than make a DIY lip exfoliator.
But here, with this product, the game goes a different way. All that I need to do is to take this product, take off the top cap, untwist the stick, apply it back and forth and that’s it - my lips are soft and beautiful again. And it takes not much more than a minute. And considering the price of it, oh, well, it’s just a dream, isn’t it? I’ve never seen a cheaper lip exfoliator before.
I can’t think of any disadvantages about this wonderful product. I can’t be even picky about its smell. Oh, well, maybe I can. I wish they did a better fragrance to the formula.
Overall
the product is affordable
it goes a really long way
the list of ingredients is pretty good
it gives me pleasant sensations as well as soft lip skin, depriving of chapped and flaky lips
it doesn’t damage my gentle lips skin
it has a little bit spoiled mint scent
I assess this E.L.F. Mint Maniac Lip Exfoliator with 4 stars and take off one star for the weird minty aroma. It isn’t a maniac product indeed. Besides it isn’t minty all that much either. Yet still it’s a working product that does everything that it promises. After its use, my lips are super soft and gentle. What else do I need to be utterly happy?
