I’ve read reviews where girls said that they constantly burnt their saucepans, broke their plates and had a little bit of a hard time removing the paste residue. After much thought and via trial and error I could manage to find a perfect formula for a sugaring paste in a microwave.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ DIY sugaring~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At the beginning I thought that it requires a lot of time to learn how to sugar your body, so that only after a while you can turn into a real master who knows all the secrets of sugaring. For the first time it was hard indeed, ‘cause I forgot to clean my skin properly and then forgot to treat it with talc.
After the first try I’ve decided to experiment. Sugaring turned out to be such a fascinating process that I could hardly wait till my hair grew again.
My husband refused to be a guinea pig for me, so I started to test it on my friends. As a consequence my house became a free sugaring salon for my girls.
The procedure has become really popular nowadays. Women used wax strips or simply wax earlier, but now they put it aside and opt for sugaring paste.
- What are the positives of sugaring:
- There is no need to heat up the sugaring paste, so that it’s burning hot.
- It applies against the direction of hair growth, thus penetrating into hair follicles better.
- The paste removes in the same direction of hair growth. Therefore, the hair doesn’t break, but removes by the roots. It’s especially important for ingrown hair removal.
- You can use a sugaring paste a few times till you achieve the desired effect. It also doesn’t damage your skin as wax does. It only removes dead cells.
- You can sugar your body even if you suffer from varicose or have loose skin (Consult your doctor before sugaring).
If you do everything right, you get the best results.
The first thing to start off is to watch some video tutorials. You can find a great deal of them on the Internet.
- Next we make the sugaring paste.
What we need:
A pot or a bowl where you can store and heat up the the paste. I use an ordinary food container for the purpose. Mix the following ingredients in the pot:
10 level tbsps sugar;
4 tbsps water;
½ lemon juice
The juice has to be strained through a sieve:
Next stir the mixture and put it in a microwave set to the highest power.
Every 1.5 or 2 mins I open the microwave and stir the paste. In about 5 mins the paste gets smooth with a slight hint of yellow:
Then I put it in the microwave again for a few more minutes and the paste gets caramel:
I wanted to get the same color as with the sugaring paste I once bought, but I failed. Once it was warm, it was darker and thicker than the one I purchased.
Before using, close your pot, bowl or container and put it in a microwave for 10-15 secs. The paste should heat up till it is 37-40 degrees. When it is ready, it’s easier to get the necessary piece of the paste.
Take a glob of the mixture and roll it in a white ball:
The mixture is very soft and sticky enough for your hair. Thus it removes from your skin easily.
I removed hair only from the half of my arm for you to see the difference.
I love the result.
- You should never forget to prepare your skin before making sugaring at home:
- Use cleansing products. You should remove oil, deodorant and cream from your skin. Unclog and cleanse your pores. Thus sugaring would be less painful and more effective. If you have normal skin type, you can just take a shower with a regular shower gel.
- Talc. You need it for the paste to stick better. Besides, it helps you to remove the paste easily. Talc should be fragrance free without any additives.
- To remove the paste residue you can just take a shower or buy a specific product designed for this purpose.
- Use a moisturizing product after procedure. The main thing is to soothe the irritated skin and pores, eliminate redness and reduce pain.
To prevent ingrown hairs, I scrub my skin 2-3 days after sugaring.
- More than that, you should think about your tools for sugaring:
- Gloves. Your hands are sweating while sugaring, so this sweat makes your paste more liquid and more sticky.
- Spatula. You need this for taking out the paste out of the pot.
- Napkins or cotton pads. Sugaring is a delicate procedure, so you should buy the softest tissues or napkins for your skin. I remove the residue from lotion or cream with them.
- Result: I loved the result pretty much right after the first use.
- Sugaring is less painful than waxing. The pain depends on how you prepare for the procedure. I don’t feel anything when I pull off the paste on my legs, but I definitely do while doing it on my armpits or bikini area. However, it is worth it.
- When does the hair grow back? It depends on skin peculiarities and on how proper you have carried out the procedure. If you want to know how quickly your hair grows, look at your eyebrows. Moreover, if your hair breaks during the process, then it would be noticeable in a few days, but you can fix it easily.
- Does the hair get thinner? If you carry out the sugaring quite oft, it seems like the hair is thinner. However, if you don’t sugar your body within 2-3 months, the hair gets thicker again. You should also take into account that every follicle has 2-3 hairs, which creates a noticeable bristle if you use a razor, but after sugaring there is only a single thin hair in a follicle.
I’m now obsessed with sugaring and don’t ever want to go back to these awful coarse hair. I’m even considering to get a certificate and become a professional in the sphere of sugaring.
Homemade sugaring paste is inexpensive and easy to use, but it won’t replace the professional one, because it is obviously more effective. Homemade product doesn’t perform well for bikini area and armpits.
