Introduction ▼▼▼

It took me 3 years before I dared to make sugaring. My first sugaring ended up in disaster, as it was so painful. Having tried epilators and hot wax after that, I made up my mind to try sugaring at home one more time. At first I went to a beauty salon to learn how should the paste look like and how to do sugaring in general. When I came home, I’d decided to try things out.

Two ways of DIY sugaring:

Lazy way▼:

☑ You can just buy a sugaring paste in a drugstore, watch some videos online and here you are!

Smart way▼:

☑ If you are determined to make your own paste and read my review attentively, you are ready for sugaring too. You won’t have to fork your cash out to make the paste.

☆☆☆What is it? ☆☆☆

Sugaring, sugar waxing or Persian waxing is a method of hair removal that has been in use since 1900 BC. With the strip method, the area to be epilated is typically dusted with powder (commercial or corn starch) prior to application of the sugaring solution, which is spread on with a spatula or tongue depressor. Some eco-friendly salons have noted that these products are not necessary for applying the sugaring solution. After the sticky paste is applied to the skin in the same direction of hair growth, a strip of porous cloth or paper is pressed into the preparation and quickly removed, with the strip taking hairs along with it. Afterwards, the process can be repeated after 8–10 days of hair growth. This is unlike the 3–4 weeks worth of hair growth traditional waxing requires.

Why is sugaring way better than waxing?

✔ Natural hair removal method

✔ Doesn’t cause irritation and allergies

✔ Less painful way, as hair removal is carried out in the same direction of hair growth

✔ Peeling effect

✔ Smaller chance of ingrown hair

✔ Affordable

✔ The hair is thicker and lighter

There are some cons, which are not really a deal breaker after the second or third session:

  • It’s a hassle to make a sugaring paste
  • It’s also a hassle to deal with it

Now let’s talk about contraindications:

  • Epilepsy
  • Varicose veins
  • Increased sensitivity
  • Dermatitis and other inflammatory skin disorders.

☆☆☆ Sugaring paste ☆☆☆

What we need:

  • 10 tbsps sugar
  • 6 tbsps lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp water
  • Enamel saucepan
  • Food container or flat plate

►►► How to make it ◄◄◄

  • Mix sugar, lemon juice and water in a saucepan and stir the mixture.
  • Put it on your stove and turn it on to medium heat. Stir it without stepping away from the stove.
  • After sugar has dissolved and bubbles have appeared, put your stovetop on low and continue stirring.
  • Keep stirring till the foam appears.
  • Keep an eye on the color of your mixture. As soon as the color of your foam is the same as in the picture No.2, turn off the heat.
  • Pour the finished paste in a container or a plate. The substance we get looks the following way:

It took me 10 minutes to prepare the paste. The product changes its color really fast, so keep watching attentively. Stir the mixture non-stop!

Then leave it on 30 minutes to become jelly-like. Next touch it and pinch it, but be extremely careful doing it and DON’T GET BURNT!

Once your fingerprints stop disappearing, IT IS READY.

Now take a small piece of the paste and roll it into a ball.

Stretch it and form a ball again. It should change the color a little and get pearl.

These are our beautiful balls!

The substance is perfect for bikini line, face and armpits. I was so fascinated by the process, that I forgot to take a picture.

☆☆☆ Preparation ☆☆☆

  1. Scrub your zone 7 days before sugaring.
  2. Scrub it again 24 hours before the procedure.
  3. Take a shower an hour before.
  4. Make sure that your hair is 4-5mm long if you sugar your body for the first time and 3-4mm if you do it again.
  5. Do not use creams the day you sugar.

☆☆☆ About the process ☆☆☆

  1. Cleanse your skin with a specific pre-epilation product.
  2. Sprinkle talc all over the area you want to sugar.
  3. Warm up the ball by rubbing it between your hands.
  4. Apply and stretch the paste IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF THE HAIR GROWTH.
  5. Pull it off using a flicking motion IN THE SAME DIRECTION THAT YOUR HAIR GROWS.
  6. Remove the residue and treat your skin with a soothing cream.

That’s it. One and the same ball could be used repeatedly. As for me, 3-4 balls are enough to sugar my bikini area and a ball for an armpit.

Before/after:

As far as you can see I had fair and rare hairs BEFORE, but AFTER I got perfectly smooth skin.

The ball already used looks like this:

I guess you got it and are ready to make it yourself.

☆☆☆ Another way of sugaring: ☆☆☆

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg sugar
  • 7 tbsps lemon juice
  • 8 tbsps water
  • Enamel saucepan
  • Food container or flat plate

►►►Preparation ◄◄◄

  1. Add sugar, lemon juice and water in a saucepan, stir the mixture and turn up your stove to the highest setting for 5 minutes. Stir it without pause.
  2. Once the sugar has dissolved, turn it down to the lowest heat and cover your saucepan with a lid.
  3. Stir it in 5 minutes and cover the lid again.
  4. Wait 5 more minutes and stir it.
  5. Take off the lid in 5 minutes and keep stirring till the mixture turns buckwheat honey color.
  6. Turn off your stove and pour the product in a container.
  7. Leave it on 3 hours to cool down.

Result:

The paste is good for all areas. Oh yeah, the way is super easy!

☆☆☆ Use ☆☆☆

Preparation

What we need:

  • Sugaring paste
  • Sugaring stripes
  • Baby powder or talcum
  • Chopsticks

Let’s get started!

  1. Apply a pre-epilation cleanser or spray.
  2. Sprinkle talc or baby powder.
  3. Scoop out some paste using chopsticks.
  4. Stretch the product in the opposite direction your hair grows.
  5. Apply sugaring tape onto your skin.
  6. Remove it in the same direction as hair growth.
  7. Remove the paste residue and use a soothing cream.

☆☆☆ General tips ☆☆☆

  • Hold your skin taut with the other hand to avoid bruises, especially in sensitive areas.
  • Press the area with your finger after pulling off to reduce pain.
  • Use the paste numerous times for one and the same area if necessary.
  • Don’t ever use hot paste.
  • Make sure you remove your hair with the roots.
  • Remove the remaining singular hairs with tweezers.

☆☆☆ What to do if you have under-cooked the paste ☆☆☆

The mixture is not ready if it sticks to your hands in the first way and it is too liquidy in the second.

Place the paste in a microwave for 2-3 minutes and let it cool down.

☆☆☆ What to do if you have overcooked the paste ☆☆☆

The product winds up to be sturdy. Add some water to solve this problem.

☆☆☆ Skin care after sugaring ☆☆☆

  • Avoid water within 12 hours after sugaring. Remove the residue with the help of stripes or tissue.
  • Use a cream or any other product after the process.
  • You can use some skincare products to slow down hair growth if you want to.
  • You may use a scrub 5 days after sugaring.

☆☆☆ For you to know ☆☆☆

Yes, sugaring is a painful process. Do not believe anyone who says that it’s not. It is painful, but one can stand it. Moreover, the pain is getting more and more endurable when you sugar frequently.

My skin doesn’t go red after the session!

My hair is thinner, softer and lighter each time.

Folliculitis is possible if are doing something wrong. You are definitely doing something wrong if ingrown hair appears.

The results can last 2-3 weeks. The hair in bikini area and underarms grow faster than the hair on arms and legs. Do not tan within 14 days after sugaring.
