Hi!
My review is devoted to another kitchen helper, namely the Philips Avent SCF870 Baby Food Steamer and Blender. I’ve been using it for 2 years now.
I’ve known about it since my first baby was born, but at that point I thought it was nothing but a waste of money. I had both an immersion and a stationery blender, and I simply boiled my baby’s first food.
Two years later, I finally bought the Avent Baby Food Steamer and Blender at a huge discount. Nowadays it costs about $250.
My first thought was like: why didn’t I buy this thing earlier? For me, this is a really multi-functional and convenient kitchen appliance.

What I cook with it:
At first, I just steamed fruits and vegetables. Later, I started making purees.
Now, when my younger kid is able to chew, we still use it: I put vegetables in and make a quick garnish. The mashed potatoes prepared in it are ultra-fluffy.

But there is more than that. My children love milk cocktails and smoothies, which I prepare with this very blender - I just put the ingredients into a jar and then blend them. For example, for a milk cocktail I take milk, a banana and ice cream. I also add something healthy like the fruits my kids usually refuse to eat. *Evil laughter*.
For myself, I prepare wonderful detox green smoothies. You know, the ones made of spinach, cucumbers etc.
In 30 seconds my mega-healthy drink is ready.

There is also a 200 ml. measuring cup for the water tank, which is enough for 20 minutes of steaming. That’s the maximum time. It depends on the water level. When the cooking time is over, the appliance beeps. You can find the amount of water required for a certain product in the recipe booklet.

In the kit, there is also a spatula.
Technical details:
Item Weight 2.6 Kg
Product Dimensions 16.5 x 16.5 x 30.8 cm
As you can see, the appliance is pretty compact. The most convenient aspect about the appliance is that it doesn’t take much space on the counter. I just put it on a coffee table.
What else is so good about it:
Advantages:
- one jar both for steaming and blending
- saves time
- easy to clean
- purees stuff very good, the consistency isn’t worse than that in baby jars.
Disadvantages:
It makes a lot of noise when in the blending mode. Plus the price is a bit high without a discount. But even for this price, I think it has paid for itself already, as I use it almost every day.
So, this steaming and blending system is a great investment for the whole family.
Would I repurchase it?
I don’t think so. Today, I’d rather buy the new 4-in-1 system which cooks 4 portions at once and can defrost and reheat. Nevertheless, I adore my steamer and I’ll use it until it’s broken.
Hope my review would be helpful for parents, because this appliance really saves your time in the kitchen.
Highly recommended!
