Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina Eyeshadow Palette - review

I adore the color violet! And when Pantone announced it as the color of the year, my inner shopaholic started to anxiously rub her hands, sympathizing to my purse at the same time. I knew that soon there would be a plenty of violet eyeshadow palettes in the beauty market. And of course, one of the most awaited one for me has become the Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina.

I worship the quality of the Anastasia Beverly Hills products, I guess you can see that from the photo of my collection at home.

So, let’s come back to the hero of my review.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina eyeshadow palette was dedicated to the daughter of the brand’s creator.

Norvina herself now runs the Anastasia Beverly Hills company, by the way, and confesses that she adores violet writ large! That’s why their main concern was to create a palette of violet shades, which would flatter absolutely every pal. The palette also offers bronze, golden and muted matte shades.

The palette was released on the brand’s site 17 July, and 24 July they started to sell it at Sephora and Ulta. I ordered it the very first day it was released and 26 July, I could already put my hands on it.

PACKAGING

Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina is dressed with the traditional velvet packaging. This time it is lavender lilac in color. And it definitely looks cute, but comparing it with the Modern Renaissance, I can say that the palette will quickly lose its presentable outward appearance. This velvet cover is really a pain in my ass to wash off. So, be ready that all this beauty is super challenging to maintain, unless you treat the palette uber carefully.

INGREDIENTS and FORMULA

It was actually the biggest concern about this palette. I was wondering what the palette would be like. Like the Modern Renaissance or closer to the Subculture palette? I like both formulas, but I have to say that these eyeshadows are really hybrids between Modern Renaissance (mattes) and Prism (shimmers and foils).

Each refill pan houses 0.71g (0.02 oz) of the product.

The palette also offers a dual-ended eyeshadow brush.

SHADES

At a casual glance the palette really seems to be lilac and violet, which won’t flatter many gals, but once we cover the two shades CELESTIAL and SOUL - there it is, the basic and everyday go-to option of eyeshadow color selection, which still looks stylish and sophisticated.

DREAMER - shimmer beige shade. It’s very chunky. It goes well for highlighting the inner corners of the eyes, but I have to say that still it looks too vibrant and glistening.

SUMMER - cool toned foil shimmer bronze shade, which looks like aged copper.

WILD CHILD - duochrome frosty pink shade. This is my fave!!! It is gorgeous. It really shines different colors, which depend on the light and trick of the light. I love using it on par with the CELESTIAL shade. My make up with these two babes looks tender, bright and unusual at the same time.

ROSE GOLD - cool rose gold, which has a hint of copper shade that makes it possible to pair with cool-, as well as warm-toned shades.

CELESTIAL - foil duo-chrome violet

DAZZLING - gray-brown shimmer

DRAMA - deep-toned aubergine shimmer shade

It is noteworthy that the shimmer shades are nice to apply only with synthetic dense brushes, fingers or sponges.

As for me, I prefer the sponge application. All the products are soft, a tad greasy and semi-creamy texture-wise. Something between the ColourPop and L’Oreal Infallible eyeshadows.

Let’s go over to the matte colors. However, it’s pretty difficult to say they are all matte, since some shades are still satin to the touch. This shift is barely visible on the skin, yet it ensures better application and blending.

BASE - matte neutral eggshell color. I don’t actually get why they’ve included it here. It won’t flatter fair skinned girls as a base shade and it’ll look weird over the swarthy ones too. Such a questionable color…

SOUL - matte wisteria shade

INCENSE - matte brown. It’s fine for the crease. Together with the LOVE shade they form a beautiful duo of warm and cool, which is so advantageous for any makeup look.

LOVE - matte cool pink

VOLATILE - matte gray-ish purple. It’s too dark for the crease, so I use it to deepen other colors.

ECCENTRIC - matte burnt orange shade

PASSION - matte red-brown shade with an inclusion of purple color

In general, I can’t be picky about the color selection of the palette. Maybe I’d have added some matte powder and cool muted shimmer champagne shade. But these are my own quirks and preferences. After all, I have a ton of other eyeshadow shades to neutralize this little issue.

 

Overall, I liked the Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina palette. The quality is top notch, the duochromes are amazeballs and still there are basic shades for everyday wear too.

The price is okay and reasonable in my book.

Each refill houses only 0.7g, which makes me believe that I’ll use all of them up one day. :):)And now, a couple of makeups for you:

All the makeup looks were created with the help of a non-sticky base. I appreciate how easily the products apply over my skin. The only thing that bugs me is that the foil shades don’t want to sit over the mattes. They require a base between them. However, it’s a common practice for such textures, they usually don’t get on well with each other.
