It’s been a while since I started looking for a lipstick of a red-orange muted color that would be matte but still comfortable on my lips. This time I decided to try out the Clarins makeup, because its color reminded me of the ABH lipplie in the shade Spice.
Clarins has put a new matte finish on its legendary Joli Rouge lipstick in a luxuriously hydrating formula that strikes a seamless balance between non-drying lipstick and a flawless velvet look.
Its velvety texture is light and creamy, gliding gently onto lips for extremely easy application: the intense matte colour instantly illuminates the lips and cares for them too.
About the price
This lipstick isn’t on the more affordable side and costs $27.
But it can be found with a special offer.
About the packaging
Honestly, it upset me a little. For the money it costs, I expected a high-end packaging, while in reality received a pathetic retro style.
The box offers all the necessary product info starting with the list of ingredients and finishing with tips on how to use it.
The bullet is made of metal, not plastic. That appears boring and 80s inspired.
About the consistency and aroma
The lipstick doesn’t have any distinguishing smell, which would repel me. Here, it’s really comfortable and I appreciate that.
As for the stick itself, it’s rather soft for a matte lipstick but still, it’s really handy to apply over my lips right from the packaging, eliminating the use of brushes.
About the results
It doesn’t make me raving, you know. The product applies with patches and it doesn’t stay within lines unless I use a lip liner. The satin sheen is here and it doesn’t look like a matte lipstick at all.
It feels comfortable on my pout but the formula isn’t long-wearing, true. I don’t think I’d dare to wear a brighter shade of this lipstick. It fades completely from my lips within 4 hours.
About ethical aspect
The sales rep in Sephora was persuading me that the brand uses only In Vitro tests.
The brand is in the black PETA list.
Overall thoughts
Meh. The lipstick might be okay in the nude shades where all the mishaps aren’t so obvious. This way, it can be even used every day. But I don’t like the brand policy, or its quality or the price.
