The Jeffree Star Cosmetics looks as much creative and sophisticated as its creator. His love of bright makeup looks has found it way out in the brand’s products. This is why the assortment is always full with bright and extravagant shades. One such shade has actually become this red-orange color of the Checkmate lipstick from the Velour Liquid Lipstick collection.
Even though the shade is limited, it still appears in the Christmas collections. The product comes packed with the red box with a lot of golden stars on it. In general, the package looks presentable. The tube with the lippie has a soft applicator, which allows me to outline my lips beautifully.
Pay your attention to the bottom part of the box. There should be a lot number given. If there isn’t any, then alas, your lipstick is a fake.
The product has some smell to it. It’s pleasant and not chasing. I’d say that it’s really confectionary.
The consistency of the lippie is of average thickness, it’s a tad creamy and quick to set.
The finish is absolutely matte, because there isn’t any shimmer or glitter to the formula of the lipstick.
The applicator is super soft and convenient to work with. But since the shade of the lippie is bright, I have to try hard to outline my lips evenly with it. The applicator is pretty big, furry and it usually takes out more of the formula than needed.
So, make sure to wipe the applicator over the rims of the tube before the application.
The formula applies evenly, though it can accentuate flakey skin, so it’s better to moisturize your lips well beforehand.
The coverage looks thick on the first go and sets very quickly. My lips don’t look dried out or tightened. I can say that I don’t feel it present on my lips at all.
The staying power is average. The lipstick is quick to fade from the inside of my mouth. However, it’s still able to live through a quick bite.
The Checkmate color is really hot and vibrant. I’d say that it’s very daring. It won’t probably look good in daytime makeup, unless you make a really nude eye makeup and leave the accent on your lips only. Then, I guess this shade will look really cute.
The product isn’t bad characteristics-wise. I especially value the even coverage and discomfort-free sensations that it gives.
The coverage looks really pliant.
I wash it off with a cleansing oil, since micellar water won’t be much help here.
