My acquaintance with the so hyped Lime Crime brand started from the set of mini lipsticks by the Pink Velve-Tin Boxed Set.
Size: 3 minis, 2.07ml each
Made by: Lime Crime, the USA
I want to tell you a few words about the set itself. Ohh, it’s really gorgeous, girls! The design is fantastic: a metal rose shaped box with the three velvet finish lipsticks inside.
The box is pleasant to hold in your hands. The top cap opens easily and I can sit and admire this beauty all day long. The quality of the set is amazing. The only issue for me was that from the very beginning the lippies were a little bit difficult to take out.
On the back you can find and read all the information and recommendations for use and application.
Everything's cuter in minis. Introducing the original liquid-to-matte lipstick, Velvetines, now in mini sizes! The set includes a collection of 3 shades, all wrapped up in a stunning keepsake tin - a treat of its own. Award-winning Velvetines formula goes on liquid and dries to a velvety-soft, transfer-proof finish. Perfect gift for a makeup lover!
My set includes the following three shades:
LOLA - matte sandy-beige color
PINK CHAMPAGNE - metallic pink golden shade
ELLE - matte beige color
Packaging, texture, application, staying power
The minis have absolutely the same packagings as the full-sized products. They are glass tubes with a metal top cap which are decorated with roses and Lime Crime captions.
As a matter of fact, the roses are for a reason here: the idea of the product is to make your lips looks like rose petals. The owner of the brand Doe Deere used to put petals onto her lips when she was a child.
That’s a very interesting story, indeed! =)
The texture of the metallic Velvetines is creamy, runny and almost undetectable on the lips. It dries out my lips a little. The fragrance is vanilla and confectionary, I like it. For example, if you apply some product on your hand to swatch the shade, the aroma will be there for quite some time. But it isn’t a perfume, of course.
The applicator wand is small and thin with a lot of hairy bristles. Thanks to its wedged shape, I find it easy to contour my lips with this applicator. And actually, the applicator is fine for this product application.
I also tried to find some other lipsticks from my stash to be close to these Velvetines and I think I’ve found it. The Maybelline Color Drama Lip Pencil in the color 140.
How to apply and what should you avoid while application?
Never apply these lipsticks from the Velvetines collection over a lip balm! Otherwise, the lippies will glide off and you’ll never get the “rose petals” effect on your lips. Your lips must be absolutely dry before application. I can even advise you to powder them a little and then apply the products with a thin layer. The lipsticks dry out rather quickly - within 30-60 seconds, so make sure you apply them evenly from the first go, as later it’ll be difficult to correct the mishaps. After drying out, the lipsticks beautifully define my lips’ relief. One layer looks bright and intense. But still I believe that the lipsticks will look differently on different girls depending on their skin and lips color.
The staying power of the products is obviously phenomenal. They don't stain cups and can easily live through snacks, tea and coffee.
But greasy food is a real threat for the lippies. If you eat, make sure to touch up, as the product will stay only on the contours. I remove the lippies with a duo-phase makeup remover.
PINK CHAMPAGNE is a tender rose gold color. It’s infused with the smallest shimmer particles. The metallic can be applied solo (if you like these dollish colors) or worn over some other lipstick. But I also advise you to use it as a highlighter or eyeshadows. I presume this color is the most versatile in my makeup bag! I’d use it as a highlighter only for an evening or for any creative makeup as there’s visible shimmer to it.
This is how the Pink Champagne looks on my eyes if used as eyeshadows:
For this makeup look I used the matte Velvetines from the set and then applied metallic Pink Champagne to the center of my lids. I applied all the lipsticks over my eyeshadow primer.
Recently I replenished my make-up collection with some new lipsticks by the Lime Crime Velvetines which I’m so happy about. I wasn’t planning to buy any but a discount at the local beauty store made my heart melt and here they are, the new roses by Lime Crime!
I will not speak about the design any more: both sets are gorgeously beautiful.
I had an unbearable desire to buy the Red Velve-Tin Boxed Set because of the matte shade Sasha. But I also fell in love with the red shades as well.
So, besides the already said color, there were also two other colors JINGLE - red metallic and RED ROSE - red shade that looks bright crimson on me.
The blue rose is in no way less beautiful.
The set consists of three lipsticks, one is metallic VIBE - purple-silver shade. Matte lipsticks are here in the shades CINDY - brown terracotta color and BEET IT - grapes color.
I was excited most of all by the blue rose, as, in my opinion, they are the best chosen colors.
I’ll start off with the way the VIBE looks on my lips:
I’m a little bit upset with the way it looks, as it’s so heavy and patchy. I have to layer the product and try very hard to make it look more or less smart on my lips. But still, I like the outcome result anyway. It’s so beautiful and unusual on the lips. I’ve never had such a curious lipstick color before, so I am ready to forgive its downsides and application issues.
Unfortunately this color isn’t as long lasting as the others.
And this is the Jingle color. It’s very Christmasy and festive. The product is beautiful and I like its metallic effect!
It applies evenly, patch-free and will easily live through some snacks. It doesn’t lose its shine and doesn’t fade. For me this color is a beautiful evening and festive lipstick. I’ve never had such a color in my humble collection before, and of course, I’m very happy to have it now!
What can I say in the end?
The Lime Crime lipsticks have become my faves! I’ve never had anything of its kind in my collection before. I truly believe these are versatile and universal products which are worth trying!
