Hello there! Finally, the trend for matte liquid lipsticks has found its way in the high-end brands, 2-3 years on.
And we all know that it isn’t something new or original and it even might look like a pathetic attempt to catch-up with a passing trend, still, the quality and comfort of such lipsticks are much more pleasant rather than of those tinted pigmented waters. And of course, we can’t leave out the design. It’s all above the praise for sure. In today’s review, I’ll tell you about the new launch of fall 2018, which is Bobbi Brown Luxe Liquid Lip Velvet Matte.
By the way, this very launch has also presented us with one more product, which is called Bobbi Brown Luxe Liquid Lip High Shine. I bought it as well and soon I’ll tell you about my impressions of it here.
I don’t see any point in describing the packaging for too long, I’ll just show you the pictures. In a word, it’s wonderful. It’s always such a pleasure to use this lipstick.
The sponge applicator here is rather convenient and it looks like a flat cone indeed.
It takes out too much to my liking, so it’s better to wipe the excess over the rims of the tube.
About the Bobbi Brown Luxe Liquid Lip Velvet Matte Lipstick:
Description:
A captivating liquid lip formula, created with powder pigments and Wild Mango Butter, that delivers lush, comfortable wear and vivid matte color for up to 12 hours.
- Paraben-free; phthalate-free; sulfate-free; sulfite-free; mineral oil-free
- Vegan-friendly and gluten-free
How to apply:
Wipe excess product off of the doe-foot applicator before applying to lips for an easy, precise application. Use the tip of the applicator to define the upper and lower lip lines, then fill in the rest of the lip using the flat side. For more precise definition, use the Lip Pencil (sold separately) before application.
Pro Tip: To create a smooth, hydrated base, apply lip balm and blot with a tissue. Then apply Primer Plus Mattifier (sold separately) around the outer corners of the lips to blur imperfections and help prevent feathering.
All in all there are 8 saturated shades of the Bobbi Brown Luxe Liquid Lip Velvet Matte Lipsticks in the collection. My shade is the fairest out of all and it’s called #1 Double Bare.
It’s such a saturated, rather cool lilac-pink mauve shade.

Out of all the lipsticks that I have in my stash, there’s only one which is more or less close to this one color-wise. And that is Nars Audacious Lipstick in the color Anna. Bobbi Brown lipstick is pretty thick texture-wise and I want to highlight it once again that it isn’t a pigmented water or a souffle, like YSL Kiss&Blush. If you touch your hand with lips within 3 minutes of application, then there’ll be a tinted stain left behind. But within some time the lipstick sets completely. It doesn’t set quickly, though. The finish looks really matte, yet it isn’t dead matte in the end. It’s lives up to the description Velvet.
As for the wear time, I don’t believe that it can stay up to 12 hours. But in any case, the product is really long-wearing.
For me, 4-6 hours are fine. After that, I think it’s rational to re-apply the product. And within that time it looks fabulous on my lips. I like that it fades delicately from my lips, leaving no patches, even though it might be a feature only of this nude Double Bare color. I can’t say anything about all the other colors in the line.
It feels comfortable on my lips and there’s no tugging or drying out. It’s natural that it doesn’t nourish my lips, after all, it’s a matte lipstick. However, my lips don’t need SOS help when I wash the product off.
The texture is comfortable for me. Photos of the product on my lips:
In general, I liked this Bobbi Brown Luxe Liquid Lip Velvet Matte Lipstick, even though I still can’t say that I’m a fan of matte liquid lipsticks and prefer more creamy ones with a matte finish.

Two of them have a glossy finish and one is matte.
I have Bobbi Brown Luxe Liquid Lip High Shine Lipstick in two colors - Au Natural and Barely Nude. They look similar, especially on my lips.
Au Natural shade is more pink-toned, while Barely Nude is more warm and peachy.
