If you are a fan of matte eyeshadows, if you adore red-brown smokey eyes, if you were thinking of buying the Kat Von D eyeshadow palette, then my review is a must-read for you
The Kat Von D eyeshadow palette was seducing me to buy it for more than a year but the price tag and loads of other eyeshadow palettes at my home usually restrained my desire. And once on a website I saw this Makeup Revolution Ultra Eye Contour Light and Shade Palette
Can you see that? They both look almost the same, don’t they? I almost bought it but decided to read the reviews of it. And you know some girls were complaining that the shades were not pigmented enough, while others said that this palette was a real Kat Von D’s dupe as the colors were no more than a halftone different and 5 times cheaper! Well, I was hooked on these reviews and eventually bought the Makeup Revolution palette. And you know what? My bestie presented me with the Kat Von D palette a month later after I purchased the Makeup Revolution palette.
They look like sisters, don’t they? Twins more likely
Packaging
Well the packaging is the only issue of the Makeup Revolution Palette. It’s made of cheap plastic which quickly became scratched. It looks so shattered in the photos. I like the minimalist design of cosmetic products like MAC or Inglot. But here the palette didn’t even leave my home and always was in my beauty bag but still looks as though I was carrying it with me everywhere.
Ingredients:
This is the renewed version of the palette which is TALC-FREE. I know that only some professional and mineral cosmetic brands use mica instead of talc in the ingredients. Even high-end brands retail talc-based eyeshadows, because of its price. I can say that this change doesn't always make the use of eyeshadows better. I love theBalm design but not all their talc-free eyeshadows are good. It's especially seen with the dark talc-free eyeshadows which are very difficult to blend. Though I didn’t have any problems with this Makeup Revolution Palette. So here the formula worked its best!
The palette houses 12 shades 1.7g each.
Deemly we can divide it with 3 quadrates:
cool-toned brown shades:
Gray-black shades:
And warm-toned brown-red shades:
Texture, pigmentation and lasting power:
The products are very dusty though they translate the pigment on the brush and skin really well.
Over primer with a brush
Over primer with fingertip
The pigmentation is average which is good, as for a newbie it’ll be tricky to cope with very well pigmented shades. Kat’s palette is very well pigmented and is totally matte. Even professional makeup artists confess that matte eye makeup is very difficult to do. And if the pigmentation of the product is insane, it becomes even more difficult as there’s a chance to stain the skin. I’m not a newbie but in the morning before going to work I always use the Makeup Revolution palette as it’s easy to work with and almost no chance of stains with it. I want to note that if you use an eyeshadow primer or layer the products, it won’t look as the shades are patchy or lack in pigment.
The lasting power is decent. Over non-primered skin the shades hold up to 5-6 hours. Over a primer, they can last for 10-12 hours.
Here I did my makeup without a primer and used the black eye pencil only on the waterline. The cat flicks are done with the dark eyeshadows from the palette.
All in all I’m delighted with the quality of these products and highly recommend the Makeup Revolution Ultra eye Contour Light and Shade Palette to you.
