I was longing to buy the OPI nail lacquer for a really long time, but the price was too high. I didn’t know whether to buy one or not, as I was completely delighted with the cheaper nail lacquers. And one day, my fave beauty blogger started telling wonderful things about these nail lacquers and I decided to buy one too. So, I bought my first one nail lacquer by OPI in the color "Suzi loves cowboys NL T12"
OPI, originally named Odontorium Products Inc., was a small dental supply company purchased by George Schaeffer in 1981.
With its vast portfolio of products, OPI serves consumers and beauty professionals through a network of distributors and wholesalers across the US and internationally.
Products include professional items, highlighting nail treatments, finishing products, lotions, items for manicures and pedicures, files, tools, acrylics, and gels, including its new GelColor by OPI that cures in 30 seconds and lasts for weeks.
Based in California, OPI makes its products available throughout more than 100 countries.
1. Price. This is the main factor which stopped me from buying the OPI nail lacquers. But, they were discounted at a store once, so, all in all I decided to buy one.
2. Size. The bottle is very big for a nail product - 15 ml.
3. Number of coats. I’d advise 2 minimum, or even 3 to get the better result, but if you apply three, you should be ready that it’ll take a while to dry. One coat looks transparent and applies unevenly, but the second looks much more decent.
4. Consistency of the lacquer is watery. That’s why it’s so difficult to apply it well the first time.
5. Brush is wide and long. And the brush handle is also very convenient to work with.
6. Scent is the same as of any other nail lacquer, repulsive.
7. It depends on the number of coats how much it’ll take to dry. It takes up to 30 mins to dry 2 coats. The first layer dries very quickly, so you can apply the second right after the first.
8. It removes easily with a usual nail polish remover.
9. This nail lacquer doesn’t stay on for a long time without a top. In two days I already have chips on the tips of my nails. So, I can wear it for no longer than two days. But, if I apply a top coat, this nail polish can easily stay for 5 days!
My problem is that I don’t like to wait for the top to dry, so I just don’t apply it. But, if you buy this nail lacquer, it’s better to buy the top as well. That was my idea in the headline. This nail lacquer doesn’t stay long without the top coat.
Once, I tried to make the ombre effect with the glitter top by ORLY, and this is what I’ve received as a result. It stayed really long, I didn’t take this photo of the first day of wearing. It stayed for more than a week. Orly does a good job.
In general, it’s very difficult to assess this nail lacquer. Everything is good about it, expect the staying power. And for me, that's the most important thing. The difficulties in application because of the liquid consistency vanish with time themselves, as the practice plays the main role.
Most of all, I was attracted by the color of this product. It’s such a bright brown, the color of roast coffee and dark chocolate…
It's up to you to decide whether to buy it or not. I give it 3 stars for the staying power, but still I give it a thumbs up.
