Hello everybody!
As many others I also got my hands on the so hyped Clarins Toning Lotion With Camomile.
I was expecting so much from it as all the reviews that I read were exceptionally positive. Well, and in general the Clarins brand is thought to be among the leading brands in skin care. Definitely not for my skin indeed.
In winter my skin is dry, super dry I can say. I got this toning lotion in a bottle of 100ml as a gift for purchasing the Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser with Shea Butter.
The bottle looks very beautiful. The top cap is thick. Well, I deem that the bottle is the only thing that I liked about this product at all.
The content is just awful.
The smell is so potent and lingering. It doesn’t even smell of natural camomile but of some chemical camomile that is concentrate and very off-putting.
The aroma stays on my skin for a very long time. I don’t like it.
The product doesn’t dry out my skin, this is true. But all the other aspects are just unbearable: after using I feel a nasty sticky film on my face that provokes an immediate desire to wash my face. My face becomes itchy after that. Of course if I itch my face, it becomes red and irritated.
Well, and don’t forget about the nasty smell of unpleasant camomile accompanying all this “cocktail” on my face.
I'm terribly sorry but I still can’t understand why a 25 buck product has at least 5 types of parabens which are exorbitant here, taking into account that it’s a leave-in product that we aren’t supposed to wash off our skin for a long period of time. Well, this isn’t certainly for my skin.
Alcohol-free toner — with purifying Camomile and Linden extracts — removes every last trace of cleanser, leaving normal-to-dry skin types pH-balanced, clean and perfectly refreshed. Softens and soothes irritations. Preps skin for the Clarins treatments to follow.
Well, does it mean that I have absolutely the opposite effect from what the product promises? You know, I could bear the use of the Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser with Shea Butter at least in winter while this toning lotion I dared to use only three times and all these three times were terrible and I was shocked with my skin condition afterwards.
The spending is huge. I applied it with a cotton pad and always had to drench it well with the product.
In the photo above you can see how much of the product is left after three uses:
Pros:
- beautiful design
- alcohol-free
Cons:
- sticky film
- nasty smell
- 5 types of parabens (how is this ever allowed)
- doesn’t go a long way
- colorant in the ingredients
- my sensitive skin becomes immediately irritated
I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feeling but I have only negative impression of this product. If you want to add some camomile in your skincare routine, then it’s better to choose some other product for sure. If you still want to give a chance to this hyped toning lotion, then I highly recommend you to start with a small size or a sachet. At least you won’t waste your money if you don’t like it.
I’m so happy that I got this “toxic” product as a gift and didn’t buy it with my own money.
