Pros: big size, calming and soothing ingredients, it doesn’t irritate my skin, mild effect

Hello everybody! I want to tell you about my experience with the Canadian brand The Ordinary. And today I’ll speak you through the Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution.

Size - 240ml.

The product consists of 7% Glycolic Acid.

This 7% Toning Solution offers mild exfoliation for improved skin radiance and visible clarity. The formula also improves the appearance of skin texture with continued use.

Glycolic Acid is an alpha hydroxy acid that exfoliates the skin. This 7% toning solution offers mild exfoliation for improved skin radiance and visible clarity. The formula also improves the appearance of skin texture with continued use.

The pH of this formula is approximately 3.6

Glycolic Acid has a pKa of 3.6 and pKa is the most important aspect to consider in formulating with acids. pKa implies acid availability. When pKa is close to pH, there is an ideal balance between salt and acidity, maximizing effectiveness of the acid and reducing irritation. Higher pH numbers in such a case would increase salt which counter-intuitively would make the formula even more irritating than if the formula was more acidic.

For me the pH level of 3.6 is more like an advantage rather than a disadvantage, as the product is said to be for everyday use. I don’t need rough exfoliation of my skin daily, you know. I’d be better with a deeper peeling of my face with some other professional products from time to time.

The ingredients list of The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution:

«Aqua (Water), Glycolic Acid, Rosa damascena flower water, Centaurea cyanus flower water, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Water, Propanediol, Glycerin, Triethanolamine, Aminomethyl Propanol, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Tasmannia Lanceolata Fruit/Leaf Extract, Aspartic Acid, Alanine, Glycine, Serine, Valine, Isoleucine, Proline, Threonine, Histidine, Phenylalanine, Glutamic Acid, Arginine, PCA, Sodium PCA, Sodium Lactate, Fructose, Glucose, Sucrose, Urea, Hexyl Nicotinate, Dextrin, Citric Acid, Polysorbate 20, Gellan Gum, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Sodium Chloride, Hexylene Glycol, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol.»

A few words about some components:

This formula contains a studied Tasmanian Pepperberry derivative to help reduce irritation associated with acid use. This derivative is of plant origin and varies in colour seasonally and this colour variation may be apparent in the formula from time to time. The formula is further supported with inclusion of ginseng root and aloe vera for both visible radiance and soothing benefits.

Consistency. It’s a little bit sticky and watery. The product has a light peachy color. The texture is more gel-like.

My experience of use and efficiency of the product.

My skin is dry, which is why mild exfoliation is the best way to use the AHA acids for me. I’ve been using a serum infused with the Vitamin C for a long time now (acid form and high percent of the content) and tretinoin. The main reason why I need to use acids in my skin care game is the need to get rid of flaky skin which was caused by the use of retinoids. This is why I prefer mild but still everyday exfoliation, rather than harsh acid infused products.

The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution hasn’t provoked any allergy or irritation on my skin. I use this product 1 or 2 times a week, depending on how much I need it, and I also alternate it with The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10%.

The days when I used this toning solution after washing my face I usually can feel a slight tingling on my skin. That feeling doesn't last long but I’m sure that it’s the moisture that’s working after the product drying out on my skin. Then there’s no tightening sensation. After application of the product I can feel a thin film on my face which isn’t sticky by the way. In my opinion the product really works and it does it delicately and mild, giving my skin a slight moisturizing effect which isn’t accompanied with irritation or allergic reactions.

Overall: The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution lives up to all my expectations and demands: it exfoliates my skin delicately yet very well, it doesn’t provoke irritation or reddening of the skin and of course it suits for constant use. If you expect that the Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution will help you get rid of pigmentation, acne scars or help you visually rejuvenate your skin, then it’s better to choose some other product for you which will be more efficient and full of more active ingredients.

I rate this product the highest, and I’m almost sure that I’ll repurchase, as I use it a lot and I can see the results. I consider that the purchase of this product was really great for me, especially taking into account the affordable price of the toner.

Thank you everybody for reading my post! 😉
