Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lip Liner - review

After finding the Matte Revolution Lipstick from the iconic Hollywood makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury, I was too interested in her hyped nude Pillow Talk lip liner and wanted it to be a part of my lip product collection so badly.

Bloggers all over the world cherish and praise it. They almost say it’s the best nude shade ever that flatters anyone.

My lips are naturally uneven and are truly far from trendy shapes and ideals. I don’t want to fill them in with hyaluronic acid. In fact, I’m against such interference when it comes to human appearances. But, I’m always for when it comes to lining my lips. And here, the main tool won’t be a lipstick but actually a lip liner.

So, I decided to start off with the hyped Pillow Talk shade from the Lip Cheat collection.

I have to confess that I felt too sorry to splurge $22 for a lip liner. After all, you can buy a bunch of different lip liners from NYX for this money!

But this product is iconic… After all, I’m a working girl and I just want it!

 

So, I eventually bought it! 🙈

The lip liner was packed in a simple thick paper glossy box with the branded lettering and info on it.

Come on, are you kidding me? For the money, we pay we have all the rights to expect at least the soft-touch cover, aka luxurious lipstick. I know that the box usually quickly finds its way to the garbage immediately, or after a quick photoshoot but I paid for it. I paid for a high-end product which eventually turned out to be packed into the package like from Wet n Wild product… Whatever. I can’t take off stars for it because after all, we’re here for the contents.

Oh, Gosh, I was so excited about the contents!!!

✅ As for the lip liner, it’s plastic and rather cute.

✅ It’s nice to sharpen even with a regular school sharpener. When I swatch it on my hand, it leaves soft and beautiful lines behind which don’t crease or turn into a mess.

✅ The color is magnificent - nude with pink undertones. This shade is usually known for having “your lips but better” finish.

I was anticipating to beautify my lips with it but how very wrong I was!

My lips aren’t the youngest. After all, I’m 36 and there are some wrinkles on them.

I was too naive to expect that the lip liner would glide over them, smoothing my wrinkles out and filling them in. But in fact, the product doesn’t glide that easily as over my hand. So, it may even leave some clumps behind.

They also say the product can be used as a lipstick primer or for filling in lips fully.

 

But no. Well, it might have been possible if only I could apply it well. Besides, this way ensures huge spending and my lips look like dried apricots then.

 

If I don’t apply anything on top of it, this kinda “lipstick” will dry out my lips so badly, they’ll look terrible with all the flaws defined.

 

I mean, the color is gorgeous, that’s true. I can even out my lips with it as well as make them appear poutier with ease. It even looks good with a lipstick on top and doesn’t dry out.

In the first picture, I wear it with the Bite Beauty lipstick and in the second with the Jeffree Star one.

But, the Huda Beauty lip liners do the same job for $19 and never look worse than this one. Besides, they can be easily used instead of a lipstick.

 

✅ This lip liner is long-wearing. When you wear it, be sure your lip liner will never turn up on your chin or somewhere on your face.

 

✅ It washes off with any oil-infused makeup remover.

 

✅ If I use it as a base, it won’t change the color of the product applied on top and will provide it with better wear time. But, it can be paired only with cream lipsticks. Otherwise, say hi to dry lips and dried apricots squared.

 

I really tried my best to make friends with this picky one. I adore this shade. But for a nude makeup look or “non-makeup finish,” it doesn't work at all. And the quality for this price must be better.

Now, I hardly ever reach this lip liner. Sometimes I still try to apply a minimum of it as possible, gently touching my lips just to even out the shape or correct the color. But the results can’t be predictable ever. It may apply with patches and streaks or look more or less bearable. Is this mumbo jumbo worth $22? Never.

Maybe one day I’ll splurge for a lipstick in the same shade but I guess I’ll pair it with another lip liner anyway.

 

From me, this Lip Cheat Lip Liner gets only 3 stars and a thumbs down. After all, for the price it cost, I can find much better lip liners.
