E.L.F. - is a very affordable cosmetic brand. Thanks to the price I finally decided to try their Matte Lip Color in the Tea Rose shade.
The design of the E.L.F. products somehow reminds me of some professional brand products. They always look posh. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that the product retails in a box. I can’t think of any affordable brand that puts its products into boxes, as there’s nobody to splurge on the box as well.
E.L.F. Matte Lip Color looks like the Inglot lip pencil. The pencil design, size, twist up - everything looks exactly as the Inglot product. The quality is a little worse, though. The bullet in the stick always shakes and doesn’t fix. Within a few months of use, I accidentally broke it down.
The lippie is unscented, but I can feel some taste to it.
Texture. It’s waxy and buttery. It’s thick and never dries down fully. I can see that this isn’t the lightest texture I’ve ever seen as somehow it looks like Plasticine. For a few minutes I feel its presence on my lips, then the lippie sets and feels much lighter.
The fact that I don’t like is that the product can crease and gather into a thin white strip on the inside of my mouth.
To the pros I can list that I don’t have to use a lip balm after wearing this lippie as I find it absolutely comfortable in wear.
No problems while wearing, as it doesn’t show flaking and applies smooth and even. The size of the bullet is also fine to contour my lips and if I want the contours to be as precise as possible I use a sharpener beforehand. Matte Lip Color can also be used as a lip liner.
Tea rose - is a dusty pink-lilac shade that won’t flatter everybody. But it flatters me and I like it. The finish is satin straight after application, though it turns matte some time later.
Pigmentation is awesome. The product hides my natural lip color. In the swatch on the left I applied it with the tiniest layer possible, slightly touching my skin. And in the swatch on the right I applied two layers. Layering the product you’ll see a true lilac undertone that disappears in warm light and becomes like a true tea rose color.
Staying power is about 3-4 hours. Since the product doesn’t dry down totally, it stains glasses or cups.
No need to use particular makeup removers as the product is easy to remove with a tissue and it won’t leave any pigment behind.
I really like the shade of this Matte Lip Color product as well as its staying power and affordable price. But its texture is far from being ideal. I have a bone to pick with the quality, performance and taste presence, so I assess it only with 3 stars.
