Hi beauty junkies!
I’d like to tell you something about the Kat von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick, the bestseller of the brand.
I already have a few products from Kat: holographic palette, finishing powder and eyeliner. And I’m totally pleased with them.
I’m obsessed with this brand, because their formulas have no parabens, sulfates or mineral oils. Also, they are cruelty free and have a gothic style. And Kat herself is bright and charming.
However, my own take on the brand is not an objective opinion of the quality of their products. So let’s figure everything out.
My impressions
As I have already mentioned the Everlasting Liquid Lipstick is a bestseller. The product comes in a variety of shades that may be divided into 3 groups:
Red: red- and pink-toned lipsticks ranging from light-pink to deep red.
Brown: lipsticks with a neutral undertone beginning from beige nude to dusty gray-brown and dark chocolate.
Non-traditional: black, blue and other crazy colors for the most bold ones.
This is not official, but my own classification of the shades. They all retail as a single range at Sephora.
I picked up some hues from the so-called group No.2 (brown), as I find these colors the most interesting out there. Some of the them are unique for me, because I’ve never seen any of them at other brands.
Packaging
I find the design of the Kat von D products the good point of this brand. This lipstick is no exception. It’s a thin, elongated and sleek tube with some fancy ornaments and the logo. It has a matte cap and silver writing.
All in all, you won’t be ashamed to take this lippie out of your purse.
Inside there is a good stopper that helps pick up the required amount of the product.
I don’t have any gripes about the sponge applicator either. It’s thin, slanted and gives an opportunity to apply the lipstick evenly. Plus, it helps draw the lip contour better.
The lipstick comes in a black paper package with the same ornament and silver writing.
It’s very sad that I have to throw away the outer package. There is just no point in keeping it
Texture, quality and wear time
All these lipsticks have the same creamy formula that helps distribute the product on my lips easily and in a thin layer. They are highly pigmented, so a single coat is enough to get a nice payoff.
It can be layered, but there is no sense to do this, because a single layer ensures comfortable wear and weightless feeling.
As for the staying power, it’s nothing special! The lipstick dries out completely and doesn’t smear any cups or cheeks. It survives after cold/hot beverages, snacks and non-greasy food. However, eating some greasy meals carefully without smacking and smearing the lips will be OK. You’ll just have to touch it up slightly after that.
I don’t want to spoil the impressions by saying the following, but I have to warn you that this range has at least one finicky shade. This is the dark gray-brown beauty, called Crucifix. The sad thing is that it applies streaky, but wears alright as well as the rest of the shades I have. The payoff is even and thin without any clumps or anything. I don’t know why it happens so…
Anyway this problem can be solved with a lip pencil, the shade of which is close to the lipstick. Nevertheless I’m still a little bit underwhelmed by this color, so minus 1 star
Swatches and application
So, here is my mini-collection. All shades look different against various skin types and different lighting. I took the following pictures by daylight, so the colors seem a little lighter than in real life.
Sanctuary is dusty gray-lilac that is good for cool neutral makeups. Also, it gives some gothic vibes. Plath is the shade for fall! It’s an intense brick-red-brown that is still on trend now.
Crucifix is a challenging hue. It’s an extraordinary, cool and complicated gray-brown that ensures quite a variety of non-traditional looks.
In the pictures you can see how uneven the coverage is, plus it’s streaky at the center of my lips.
Lolita is the coolest shade out there! It’s an everyday shade that is close to my natural lip color. I believe it can be used in any makeup regardless of weather and your mood.
Bottom line:
This is the best matte lipstick I’ve ever tried. My lips that are prone to getting dry feel very comfortable wearing it.
Hands down this lipstick as well as any other matte lipstick requires lips that are well prepared.
If they are overly dry and have dry patches, the lipstick won’t help it. So all your imperfections will be noticeable and look horrible.
However, if you peel, moisturize and nourish your lips on a regular basis, you won’t have any problems at all! You can wear it even daily then!
All in all, the product is definitely worth a look. I feel confident in recommending this one!
Thanks for reading my review.
Have a nice day and happy shopping!
