The whole beauty-world is crazy about contouring right now… Instagram is full of pictures with made up girls and their ‘war paint’ faces. Well, I don’t mind emphasizing advantages of my face. The only thing is not to overdo it! Everything should have its limits!
Every makeup brand produces this or that contouring product now.
Maybelline went to even greater lengths and launched a huge contouring lip palette!
It comes in two shades: pink-nude and red-violet.
I’ve been thinking which one to grab for quite a while and decided that the pinks are more wearable and suitable for everyday use. So I purchased it:
The palette with the Pink-Nude shades:
║ Price: $13.99
║ Weight: 4 g ║
║ Manufacturer: Maybelline
What they say…
Lip Studio™ Color Contour Lip Palette. Achieve a fuller pout in three easy steps: line, fill, and highlight!
Trending now: Achieve a perfect pout with this three-step lip palette! Use the thin edge of the brush to line and define your lip contour. Then, fill in your lips with high-impact matte color. Finish by amplifying your natural contours with the highlighter.
Wear paired-up shades or mix and match for multiple lip looks.
The outer appearance…
The palette is made of black plastic with a see-through cap. Visually the palette is the same as all the other Maybelline palettes.
The product had a tamper-proof sticker on it:
Inside you can find a two-sided brush, which is quite workable, so I use it for application:
The wide side of it is meant for applying the base color:
The narrow one is designed for contouring your lips:
On the back you can find the product description with a schema how to use the palette and contour your lips.
Properties and use…
Let’s start reviewing the lipsticks and other products included in this palette!
It has 6 lipstick shades. Left: dark hues, which are meant for contouring. The row is called LINE for a reason.
Right: light colors to fill the lips. It’s called COLOR.
The shades are hard to convey with a camera, but the flash helps make them look more real:
The palette also has two products: primer on the left and a highlighter on the right.
The texture of the primer is sturdy and a pain in my neck to pick up. It’s white and transparent.
What can I say about this primer?
According to the manufacturer it has to even out the lips and make them lighter. It’s a lip base, but I personally prefer applying lipsticks without it.
I don’t know how it will perform on other lips, but it emphasizes even the smallest dry patches on me. Also, it dries out my lips, so I don’t feel like using it. I like how the shades look on my lips without this primer.
As for the highlighter, I love it! It has a nice creamy and soft texture.
It picks up and applies with ease. Moreover, it gives a delicate glow on my skin.
The shade looks golden but has a pink undertone. The glistening particles are very fine.
By artificial lighting:
The manufacturer recommends applying this highlighter to the center of the lips, giving them volume. I loved how it performed so much that I decided to apply it to my cheekbones and under my brows too!
I think it looks very natural without overdoing. It’s just a light glow without much shimmer to it! It’s perfect for a daily makeup!
Now let’s talk about each shade…
The palette comes with 6 shades. All of them are bright and pink-nude. Each shade is great for a daily makeup and if you make a highlight to your eyes, then it will be also nice for an evening look.
That’s how the colors look on my lips:
The consistency is nice and creamy. It applies evenly without any streaks.
The pigmentation is very nice. The lipsticks feel very comfortable, not drying or tightening. The manufacturer says that these lipsticks are moisturizing! I don’t know if they really moisturize them, but they definitely don’t make them worse!
The wear time is great for a moisturizing product! They wear quite long and do not really come off even after a snack. They leave a pigment towards the evening.
Now let’s contour lips! The palette is actually meant for this purpose!
I picked up the beige-brown hues. At first I contoured my lips with a darker shade and filled the lip area with a lighter one:
Here is the result:
Now I have to apply highlighter to the center of my lips according to the manufacturer. I prefer doing it with my fingers:
I think the result is nice and my lips do really look voluminous!
The second pair is pink. The application is the same:
With a highlighter:
The third pair is dusty rose
With a highlighter:
Well? I guess the contouring technique does really work!
My lips look more voluminous and fascinating for real! However, I love giving them volume in a different way. I like darkening the corners of my lips and fill the center of them with a lighter shade, plus a highlighter to it:
To sum up, I can definitely recommend the Maybelline Lip Studio Color Contour Lip Palette! I love it! It’s nice to use and the shades look amazing. Moreover, the lipsticks have a nice texture.
The palette is actually multi-purpose, because it has a highlighter that can be used not only for your lips, but also for the other parts of your face. Also, you can make your lips glossy and more voluminous if you follow the suggested use!
The palette is awesome! It’s a real find for such a price! A mirror would be desirable, but it’s not that big of a deal!
