Yay!

You can’t ever get enough of lipstick, right? So, meet the Color Splash Hydrating Lipstick by Tarte then.

I have three colors from the collection. Two are from the set that you can see in the picture below, and one more lipstick is from another set and, unfortunately, I can’t find a pack from it. :)All the minis look exactly the same as their elder sisters - design- and formula-wise. The only difference is in the size.

The lippies come with alluring plastic sticks of blue color. The design has marble notes to it, which is so typical for the Tarte brand. The lettering on the sticks isn’t engraved, yet still it stays on nicely and definitely lives through shattering about my purse.

The box gives only a minimum of the product info, including the list of ingredients, though. The weight of each stick is 1g. Made in Italy. The full sized lipsticks have 0.12 oz/3.4g.

In this case, the small size of the product isn’t such a bad thing, you know. The products have a crazy color payoff. In all the swatches on my hand I applied them only with one layer. As for my lips, I usually apply a tad of the formula over them and then distribute it with a lip brush. The spending is meager!

My shades Rum Punch and Daiquiri are from the set in the picture and Surf's Up is from another set. Below, I’ll tell you more details about each of the shades, because all the lipsticks are different quality-wise.

Well, I deem I’d better to start off with the Daiquiri color. It has an attractive shade - not yet red, but still not coral either. Sometimes it looks truly warm-toned, sometimes it’s more cool-toned.

The texture is pliant, it doesn’t feather, which makes it possible not to use a lip liner for me.

The application is fantastic! The product applies evenly right from the stick and one swipe already gives a huge amount of the pigment, covering my natural lip color. It’ll stay put after a meal, leaving a beautiful tinted finish behind. The contours will also stay in place and after a meal you can either touch-up or apply a lip balm or a lip gloss for a fascinating finish.

The wear time is good - about 4 hours for sure. But after that time, something wrong happens with it. I still can’t find how to tame the product because sometimes it looks fine on my lips even after 5-6 hours of wearing, but other days it flakes right off my lips, looking as though I covered my lips with a gouache and oil. Currently I can suppose that it behaves this way because of the heat or in the sun, but I’m not so sure and will keep on testing.

The next is Rum Punch. It’s such a regular peach-nude color. The texture is the same as of the previous color. It’s pliant and not feathering. I can wear it without a lip liner. (However, in the photo below I applied the Charlotte Tilbury lip liner over the edges of my lips a little). This lipstick is a tad less pigmented, but I think that’s because it has a lighter color. I have nothing bad to say about it, the pigmentation is still on fleek. The formula isn’t drying for my lips either. It can crease, though, but I believe that it’s only because of the fair color.

The wear time is the same, about 5 hours. After a meal it disappears almost completely. No problems with it, unlike with the previous color.

And my fave - Surf's Up. Of course the color isn’t actually complimenting for me. It’s such an ashed pink shade with a lot of brick and red undertones.

The formula is creamy and super soft. It applies easily, giving the maximum of the color on the first go. It feels like a veil over my lips and it’s always such a pleasure to wear this color. My lips don’t feel dried out with it on and I know that they look gorgeous. The first two lipsticks are prone to showing my lip relief, but this one is different texture-wise. It’s like an iron for my lips, which evens out my lip relief. The staying power has turned out to be phenomenal. The lippie lived through a Valentine's day night out for 8 hours and then it stayed through a dinner after that. Of course the creamy texture disappeared, but the pigment was there and held on perfectly well!

I adore this lipstick! If I know that there’ll be a special occasion or a long day ahead, I’ll always opt for it. Smile

I’ll show you some comparison swatches for a better color perception.

You can buy these lipsticks in different sets of 2 (like mine or of 4 lippies which are bigger). There are also some bigger sets which include other products as well, along with the lipsticks.

All that can be found on the official site of the brand. The price of a set is $10. (not discounted, but they usually have different promos and sales on particular products)

The price of the full size is $21.

Do I like this product?

Yes, I do. I’d buy a couple shades more for me. These lipsticks are magnificent application-, staying power- and appearance-wise (I still can’t make up my mind on the Daiquiri shade).

Do I recommend them?

Of course I do, because I believe that these lipsticks are worth trying!

Here is my other review of the best nude lipstick ever.

Thanks for your attention!
