I’ve been waiting for the release of these palettes for so long, and I ordered one of them right after the launch. My choice fell on the versatile palette Smokey
It’s made of solid cardboard with a magnet latch. It arrived without an outer box, just in a plastic container which was supposed to protect it during the delivery.
In the palette, one can find a high-quality mirror plus 9 eyeshadows. No brush or sponge included.
Even though the palette is compact, it includes the whole 9 eyeshadows: 4 matte and 5 shimmery ones.
The matte shadows are tightly pressed yet soft and smooth to the touch. In general, the pigmentation is high, but a few dark shades may apply with gaps and fall out.
The shimmery shades are even softer than the matte ones. They are super pigmented and almost buttery.
They should be applied either with fingers or with flat synthetic brushes.
As a rule, I apply them onto a base or a creamy eyeshadow. There are no problems with lasting power or creasing.
Let’s take a look at the shades:
The eyeshadows have no numbers or names, so I’ll be showing them divided in rows.
The upper row
The matte black has great pigmentation, but it can appear dirty grey once blended, and fall out. It’s troubled, but it’s possible to tame it.
The matte beige has great pigmentation and blendability, and it doesn’t fall out.
The beige bronze is highly pigmented, easy to work with and looks utterly beautiful when applied with a finger or wet.
The middle row.
The most beautiful shade in this palette is this silver metallic, it’s highly pigmented and soft, perfect as a color to emphasize your eyes.
The shimmery chocolate is great for smokey eye makeups as well as darkening the outer corner of the eye. It has superb pigmentation and great blendability.
The copper orange is metal, as gorgeous as the other shades in the palette.
The lower row.
The dark brown matte shade, which falls out like the black one, has no problems with blendability and pigmentation.
The brown taupe may apply with little gaps and fall out, but has good pigmentation.
The pink-beige is beautiful, like the other metallic shades in this palette
I think this palette lacks only one shade, a matte satin which would serve as a base, under eyebrow and in the inner corner of the eye. That’s not obligatory, of course, but I think it would be better if there was such a shade.
And now a few makeups with Huda Beauty Smokey Obsessions Palette
With this palette I can create both everyday makeups as well as evening ones, and for special occasions.
Even though there are a few drawbacks, I’m not disappointed! Thanks to its compact size, the palette is travel-friendly. Also, it’s easy to work with. Even the shimmer shades alone are worth the purchase!
