Among all the 5 stars reviews, I want to give that famous American palette Chocolate Bar by Too Faced 2 stars.
It’s undoubtedly true that the palette is thought out when it comes to the outer look and the inner content as well. But, there are some characteristics that break the reputation of the famous “Chocolate Bar”. So, let’s get started from the very beginning.
No doubts that the packaging is the first thing that catches the eye. There are so many designs now, created for one reason - to catch the eye of the customers. But, honestly, I’ve never seen such a cute, retro-styled packaging before. It makes me believe that it’s not the palette with the eyeshadows, but the bar of a real chocolate.
The palette itself is a metal case in chocolate shape. The packaging is decent and stylish.
The lid closes with a magnet. The refill pans are in plastic pits. Under the lid there’s a wide mirror, but it’s inconvenient to use it, as the lid can’t be fixed. So you need to either hold it with all your fingers (as it’s heavy enough) or just recline the lid on something else.
At first I was confused by the colors in the palette. But later, I understood that all the colors weren’t chosen by chance and were thought out and chosen by the make-up artists and professionals.
To make it easier to understand what’s what, there’s a transparent plastic membrane with the name of each color on, as well as an instruction book by the manufacturer on how to use each hue according to the eye color.
Traditionally, there are 3 - brown, green and blue.
The designer version of make up made my fantasy fly high and I did all the 3 options on my green eyes. I want to say that all 3 make-up looked great, despite the fact that not all of them were for green eyes.
And here are the photos to prove it.
Haute Cocoa for brown eyes:
Sweep Champagne Truffle from crease to brow.
Blend Cherry Cordial on inner and outer lid
Press Creme Brulee onto center lid
Blend Haute Chocolate in crease. Line upper and lower lash line.
I liked this make-up very much, despite the fact that there’s a lot of shimmer, it looks decent, but still quite bright. I can say it’s on the edge between the evening and daily make-up.
The great discovery for my green eyes I did with Semi-Sweet look:
Sweep Salted Caramel from crease to brow.
Apply Strawberry Bon Bon on the lid
Apply Candied Violet to outer lid
Blend semi-sweet in crease and lower lash line.
Before that I couldn’t even imagine that the pink and violet colors can look so nice on my eyes.
Milk Chocolate:
Apply White Chocolate from lash line to brow
Press Milk Chocolate onto lid
Blend Gilded Ganache into the crease and lower lash line
Create a cat eye above lash line with Triple Fudge and extend out and up
There’s no hint of shimmer, only matte velvet hues.
Milk Chocolate was also the experiment I made a discovery with. I usually put my eyes forward when I apply some light and shimmer eyeshadows on the center of the lid. But here, my eyes look calmer and more thoughtful. I was afraid that it wouldn’t suit me, but no, I was wrong. It suits, and suits so much.
The swatches:
Unfortunately, I couldn't make the hues look as bright I wanted them to.
The hues, especially the mattes are bad pigmented, I literally need to rub them into the skin. What’s more they’re so dry and fall out a lot, even the primer can’t save the situation. It’s like there are two individuals in me now. One of them says that the eyeshadows are gorgeous, they’re beautiful and professionally tested. The aroma fills the room with the sweet chocolate scent once I open it. The design is original and the palette is pleasant to touch, the presence of the cocoa powder in ingredients is a great advantage. But still, there’s another one who says that this palette is too expensive, inconvenient, the hues are badly pigmented and fall out a lot.
I presume that I won’t recommend it for buying. But still I think 2 stars is not enough, as I can easily see the designer efforts in it.
I will keep using and continue using the palette up till it's finished, but I won’t ever buy it again.
