“There can never be enough lipstick” - that was actually what I was thinking about when I grabbed a hundred-something lipstick and quickly headed for the cash desk at Sephora.
The 50% discount and my curiosity for the lipstick that I’ve never tried before made me the lucky owner of the Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipstick.
There are 33 shades in the collection which have the following formulations:
It usually happens that when they have a sale there isn’t actually much to choose from, so, being at the store I quickly found the shade I liked which is the WSM shade of the Comfort Matte formulation:
Size - 5.3 ml
Price - $18
Made in the USA
✅ Product promises:
A waterproof liquid lipstick that lays down intensely pigmented color that lasts.
Get lasting wear, highly-pigmented color that will not transfer with Vice Liquid Lipstick. Like Urban Decay’s original formula, it saturates lips with color and its comfortable, nondrying wear sets it apart from other liquid lipsticks.
This is the first Urban Decay lipstick in my collection, so I’ll compare it with those lipsticks that I have in my collection in terms of comfort in wear.
Isododecane, Bis-Hydroxylauryl Dimethicone/Ipdi Copolymer, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Silica, CI 77891 / Titanium Dioxide, Cyclohexasiloxane, Nylon-12, Mica, Dicalcium Phosphate Dihydrate, Tridecyl Trimellitate, CI 15850 / Red 7 Lake, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Propylene Carbonate, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, CI 77491, CI 77499 / Iron Oxides, Silica [Nano] / Silica, Alumina, Diisopropyl Dimer Dilinoleate, CI 45410 / Red 28 Lake, Ascorbyl Palmitate, CI 42090 / Blue 1 Lake, CI 19140 / Yellow 5 Lake.
✅ Outer appearance:
The product is packed in a see-through plastic tube. The cap has the branded engraving to it. The tube itself has the branded lettering as well. All in all the design is simple, stylish and smart.
The name of the shade is given on the bottom sticker.
Initially, all this beauty was packed into a cardboard box of a very bright color where you can find all the product info.
It’s of average size, soft and doe-foot. I find it convenient in use. I can say that the Jeffree Star lipsticks are impossible to use without a lip liner but this product is nice to outline my lips literally on the first go. This is one of the best applicators that I’ve ever seen in a liquid matte lipstick.
✅ Scent and taste. I can’t make out any, which is always a plus for me. One more thing that failed that could have probably irritated me, as I’ve got very sensitive nose.
✅ Consistency. It’s a gentle mousse. On the swatch the product might look semi-opaque, though it covers my natural lip pigment very well.
✅ Application. It’s absolutely fuss-free. The lipstick applies with a thin layer and doesn’t look streaky. The dry down isn’t lengthy and usually it takes up to a couple of minutes to dry down completely. Within that time you can easily layer the product if you want to build up the color.
I wouldn't advise you to layer the product after it's dried, as it has a tendency to crack down in pieces then, as many other lip stains, you know. Of course the lipstick will show your lip's relief, yet it won’t make them look too dry.
✅ Shade. On the official site this very shade is described as Rose-Pink. But I’d describe it differently. For me it’s an ashed rose with a true magenta undertone. Thanks to this undertone I can see that my teeth visually look whiter when I wear this lipstick. Since I’m not actually blessed with a Hollywood Smile, I’m more than just happy with this lipstick feature.
What’s more, you can outline your lips using this product overcoming your natural lip lines and then it won’t look terrible or anything. I appreciate this fact about matte lipsticks.
✅ Performance on my lips while wear
The lipstick is really comfortable on my lips. I can hardly feel it. It’s absolutely non-tacky. And yes, I guess it’s water-resistant, as it easily lives through drinking tea, kissing and even snacks. It doesn’t smudge or feather. If it starts fading, it gradually comes off from the inside of my mouth. One more advantage of this color is that it isn’t much different from my natural lip pigment that’s why it doesn’t stand out and I can easily wear it for more than 6 hours with a zero touch-up. After that time, it’ll be better to reapply the product to the inside of the mouth with your fingertip to make the difference less noticeable. I don’t advise you to reapply the product all over your lips as then they’ll look too dry and the lipstick will crack then. Of course the lipstick can’t stand greasy food and will always fade if you eat.
✅ Lipstick in total look
Since the product is long-wearing, regular water won’t help you to remove it at all. Of course you can try and use a micellar water but then you’ll have to rub your lips for a long time and rather hard. It’s better to use some special makeup removers like a cold cream or a cleansing balm.
In the end I want to say that I’m happy with my purchase. I always wear it with great pleasure for the office as well as just for everyday activities. The formula isn’t drying to my lips but still I prefer to use a lip balm afterwards. I’m in my 30s, so skin care is always a must.
And yeah, I can’t say that I’m raving about this lipstick, as I wouldn’t call it the best liquid lipstick out there in the market. I can compare it with the Too Faced, Tarte or Cailyn lipsticks. The price of them is almost the same, only the shades vary. It’s up to you to decide which one you love more.
But one thing I can say for sure is that this Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipstick is better than the NYX Lingerie lipsticks. And if you can afford only the NYX Lingerie, I’d advise you to wait until the UD Lipsticks will be discounted and grab one of them instead.
I assess my Urban Decay Vice Liquid Lipstick with the deserved 5 stars and definitely recommend it for purchasing.
Thanks for your attention and see you in my next reviews!
