Even though liquid matte lipsticks aren’t so popular now in comparison with a few years ago and they seem to be losing their path, there are still a lot of girls who love them and continue buying and using these matte lipsticks. Of course the trend of liquid matte lipsticks didn’t pass by me and I was also hooked on them. Unfortunately, my first matte liquid lipstick by Essence turned out to be a disaster quality-wise. But even though the first use with this lipstick segment wasn’t actually pleasant for me, I still wasn’t disappointed and started to buy liquid lipsticks by other brands. I heard only positive reviews of the liquid lipsticks by Make Up For Ever, so once I had a chance to visit their store, I immediately headed to the lipsticks counter. I chose two lipsticks from different collections for me. One of which I’m going to write a review today. So, Make Up For Ever Artist Liquid Matte Lipstick.

Design - the lipstick comes in an acrylic tube. It has a convenient applicator which is soft to some extent. Initially the lipstick was housed in a cardboard box with all the necessary information on it - like manufacturer, ingredients etc.

Shade - I opted for the Make Up For Ever Artist Liquid Matte Lipstick in the shade #101. It’s a very beautiful pinky-beige nude color. I love nude lipsticks especially for daytime makeup. And most frequently I wear exactly nude colors on my lips.

I’d like to ask you to pay no attention to the red lipstick as I also did some swatches of another lipstick for another review.

Smell - it’s pleasant, cosmetic-like and unobtrusive. In general all the Make Up For Ever liquid lipsticks smell nice for me.

Application - at first I didn’t like this lipstick because of its consistency, which seemed to be too watery and runny. But despite this disadvantage it still gives good coverage and applies nicely leaving an opaque and streak-free finish. Even one thin layer already gives good coverage on my lips. If there are mishaps during the application, there’s a chance to correct everything.
I really liked that the product has a buildable formula and the second coat assimilates with the first one quickly and the coverage in general looks seamless showing no patchy color or uneven texture. It dries down very fast within 2 or 3 minutes when the satin coverage turns absolutely matte.

If you’d ask me to compare this Make Up For Ever Lipstick with the one that I had by Essence, then I can say that the liquid lipstick by Essence always applied unevenly (for a more or less decent coverage I had to try really hard). And I can assure you that it never dried down to a matte finish. The Make Up For Ever product applies perfectly well and even, there are no color fall outs or crumbles…

If I were to assess this lipstick only for the color it shows on my lips, without any thinking over I’d give it 5 stars, but taking into account its performance on my lips, I have to change my mind completely.
Make Up For Ever Artist Liquid Matte Lipstick #101
The very first day when I applied it to my lips, my excitement was gone within 1.5 or 2 hours after application. During this time I drank a cup of cappuccino and a glass of water. I also talked a lot (who knows, maybe if I was silent, the lipstick would have performed and looked better). On my lips the product turned into a terrible disaster, it cracked and looked as though crazed :(
Here’s a photo taken after 1.5 or 2 hours of wearing.
This photo was taken after 1.5 - 2 hours after the application. During that time I drank a cup of cappuccino, a glass of water and talked actively
I also noticed that the lipstick was too drying for my lips and after wearing it, I desperately needed to apply a lip balm.
I also want to draw your attention that the lipstick is transfer-proof as it doesn’t stain cups or glasses.
It washes off without any special effort with a regular dual-phase makeup remover.

I can’t recommend the Make Up For Ever Artist Liquid Matte Lipstick for purchasing, and it’s rather logical that I can’t assess it with more than three stars. Maybe there's a chance that other shades from the collection will perform better on the lips, but I must say it for sure that I won’t even check it.
